another aux port question!

My aux ports move freely and the solenoid works fine. But the darn things never open when everything is hooked up. Is the problem then with the CPU or what?

Oh and I don't think it's the air pump because if I bypass the solenoid and rev the motor the actuators work fine.

#1 The ECU controls the engine, not the CPU. The CPU controls the body electronics like horn and door buzzers.

#2 The aux ports and VDI only work while the engine is under load, so you need to be in gear and driving for them to open. Just rev'ing the motor will not open them

Sorry ECU, CPU

All the ways I've read to see if the actuators are working are based on the S4(where the rods retract). The "grease test" won't do any good on an S5(where the rods extend).

Well this is not true in my case. If I rev my engine in neutral, I can see the VDI valve rotate. Also just like the poster above I'm also having a similar problem with my aux ports. The solenoid works great when I do the voltage and blow test. When I by pass the solenoid the ports open when I rev the engine, however it wont work when everything is hooked up correctly. In experimenting I swaped the electrial plugs from the VDI and AUX solenoids. I reved the engine again and now the aux ports opened. I grabed a volt meter and the connector for the VDI registerd 12v when I reved the engine, however the aux connector only showed 6v. . The 6v are why my ports aren't opening. Anyone know why the voltage is so low?

Just because the VDI operates while free-revving, doesn't mean the 6PI is supposed to also. The FSM lists load (measured by the AFM) as an input for both systems, but you have no idea how much load is required to trigger each system. There's no reason why it should be the same for both.

An obvious way to test the 6PI system is performance testing. A dyno would be the best way but acceleration testing is probably more practical. If the aux ports aren't opening then performance above ~4000rpm will suffer. Doing timed runs from 35-70mph in 2nd will rev the engine from 4000rpm to redline. 50-100mph in 3rd will do the same thing (but don't get caught). Do a few runs with the car as it is now and then do a few runs with the 6PI solenoid unplugged. If there's a noticable increase in the average measured time then the 6PI system must be working okay. If not, then it isn't.
