another atf post! :)

Are you guys getting tired of me posting yet? If so just tell me and I'll be sure to ...... never mind I'll keep posting I like this place! Anyways I just called the original owner of the car and he said the reason my engine is burning white smoke is because he thought it was flooded thats why it wouldn't start. However after I took out all the interior I found that it was the ignition switch. He probably put a bunch in and it was probably about 3 or 4 months ago. My question(s) are how long will it blow white smoke for about? And also will this mess with my idle at first? Thanks!!!

Should only smoke after the ATF treatment for about 5 mins or less... Shouldnt aversely affect idle.

Atf if left in too long can corrode the oil control seals. But since you are burning white smoke, that could also be a side effect from flooding.Take it on the highway,I think it will run it's course.

ok I'm putting new interior in either this or next weekend and after that I'll do that. Can it corrode after only 3 or 4 months? THanks!

Holy christ.... ATF in the motor for 3-4 months?! Where do people get ideas like this? What happened to using good old motor oil? It wont mess up the seals.

For real, I would say there may be a problem leaving ATF in for that long.

ATF left in for a long time will eat away at anything rubber. Plain and simple, end of story no questions asked. Also keep this in mind, you introducing it into the motor to eat the carbon, what else do you think will happen???

crap .... well I'm going to take it on the highway as soon as I get all the new interior put in it (next weekend) so hopefully all that atf will just blow out and everything will be cool!

hate to tell ya dude, but start saving for a rebuild... if the coolant jackets haven't busted yet, they will because their strength has been compromised.

If its white smoke, that could be coolant...A nice long drive will tell you if it stops or not...
Good luck/skill
