Talking amplifier/subwoofer hook up

I bought my 88 rx7 gtu with a red ex2 scosche ground wire already connected to my battery and hidden in my car. i striped the end of it and hooked up an amp that i own, a premier one, hooked up my speakers and it does not work.

the red ground wire, which i put in the power hook, is way too thick to fit all the wires in so i split it and shoved half in. i'm wondering if that is why they arent working.

if you have any ideas or advice or if im just flat out missing something, please let me know!!!!!!!

Ground is normally Black on aftermarket amps... what do you mean by a red ground wire?

And most amps need a positive from the battery, a good ground from the body, and a turn on lead from the radio as well as signal leads.

Where are those hooked up too and are they properly connected?

Is this a stock radio that you are trying to hook an amp up too or something aftermarket.

if the red wire coming from the positive terminal on the battery and has a inline fuse check that to see if the fuse is blown but if the red wire is like a 4 gauge wire you could route it to a distribution block a run a 8 gauge but i wouldnt run anything smaller than that gauge or you'll get a ton of interferance, but the amp should a power asnd a ground which you have to ground to the chasis otherwise it will not work either

OK first make sure that the fuse is no less than 10 inches from the battery but no more than 18inches. The gauge of the wire is totally dependent on how much power that amp will draw.

BTW if you use an 4gauge power use a 4gauge ground!

So you have a live wire from the battery to the amp and a good ground a wire coming from your stereo (will be marked remote or amp turn-on) then you need your RCA wires. If this is hooked like this then your amp should turn on. AT the very least it will go protected till you find a good ground.

Are you running a remote wire from the hedunit to trigger the amp?
