Am I crazy for wanting to buy ....

A 1990 NA RX7 with full S5 T2 swap (unsure of the brakes but I will check when I go back). The car has 120,000 on the body and somewhere around 20,000 on the swap.

The paint is in mint condition, interior is black and in excellent condition, all the switches and electronics (yes the clock too) except for the window switch. It has a JSPEC S5 engine in the car currently.

There are a few problems:
1. The rear rotor is toast .. unsure what extent .. seals, housing, rotor, etc
2. Passenger side door wont open ... which poses a problem of how to get it open without ******* up the interior door panel

There are a ton of upsides:
1. Paint is immaculate .. it was recently repainted candy red. There is 0 rust on the car, not even around the sunroof (which still functions perfectly).
2. Has S5 T2 lip on it
3. RE Amemeya (spelling?) rear bumper
4. Blitz exhaust and hks downpipe .. some gauges on the car .. some cheap racing seat.
5. My Greddy 3 row intercooler kit that I had on my vert can be put on it

It's at 1700 dollars which I'm debating right now. AND NO I WONT POST A PICTURE BECAUSE I DO NOT WANT SOMEONE BUMPING ME FROM MY PURCHASE.

But am I crazy? I think it would take 1000 bucks to rebuild the engine (including labor) .. so at 2700 I'd have a great running MINT CONDITION RX7.

Go for it, my GTU costed me 1600$ and that's before I realised it had a blown engine.

Even if the door won't open from in or outside, there are ways, without messing the interior - call a lockout service (i.e. tow truck guy).

Rebuilding will cost more than $1000, once you start finding scored housings, etc., but it still sounds like a good deal.

More like a little under $3k for the rebuild. Go look for a rotary rebuilder first and see. It's $1200 just to buy all the seals (w/o labor). That's assuming the metal parts are all good. Heck, even with the piston in my mom's Civic it the mechanic charged $1200 just to fix a bad head gasket.

Plus if the engine's bad, that may mean something else is bad that he doesn't have to tell you about b/c you can't test drive it.

When I swapped over the s4 engine into my car .. the seals only cost about 400 bucks, for everything ... ?
If it comes out to 3000 dollars for the rebuild, ill just buy another engine, rebuild it and throw it in. Or just have pineapple rebuild the entire thing for 2800 bucks or so.

I could .. but I'm not going to basterdize an S5 car with S4 components. Especially since im still running the vert ecu.

If the brakes arent t2 ill swap those from the vert.

But yea ... anything major i shuld be focusing on when checking out the t2 converted na ?

Just make sure that everything looks installed properly. Not some ghetto rigged swap. Also, the owner might be like me and still using the NA driveline. In that case, you are actually better off. Isn't the S4 LSD rearend better anyway? Regardless. I think given the level your old vert was at, you should be good at spotting any issues

he doesnt have the rear end of the vert anymore. i took it off his hands to put it on my vert.

I think you should go for it. the candy paint is probably about 1500 to 2000 alone, depending on the quality of the work of course. if the rear rotor is gone and still running i dont think it would be anything too major, but should be taken care of. and 1700 or 2700 for a good running FC is great imo. i bought my vert for 1500 and haven spent about 3000 on it, and it is... not running sounds like a good deal to me...

We are all going to die. Fortunately, your time was not over when your Tvert flipped. That being said, you cannot live life afraid of dying.

You will never be truly happy with a roof over your head, not after that car.

Good luck, the TII sounds like a good deal.
