While driving my 88 home today i noticed that the voltage gauge was hovering on 12V. also having problems with the car stalling after it first starts and i can make it stall if I load it.

I'm going to need an alternator and I want better than stock.

what are my options?

are there any writeups on how to modify wiring harness for maybe the fd alternator or is there a better alternative?

check the FAQ, if i am not mistaken there is a diagram showing the differences of the alternators and there should be a write up some where here on how to mod the wiring harness of the S4 for an FD alternator.

 

The FD alt is an option, there is tons of info on this site. Use the search feature, I bet you a dolla youll find your answer.
