alternator relocation brackets (not offered anymore?)

Ok, so I guess Pineapple Racing used to offer them, but I guess there were enough failures that it wasn't worth the production cost, given that the profit margin was so low.

I was wondering if anyone else has taken it upon themselves to design a bracket to do the same job, or if Pineapple or someone else there plans to offer this again (one of the threads mentions a one-piece aluminum bracket, but that could be a ways off before it happens, as it's such a low priority).

why would you need a different bracket i the first place..the range on the mazda oem one is plenty..even running dual pully you still have range up and bellow when fitment is correct..fill me on why you would want a custom bracket im intrested on your motive...

Pineapple did stop making them. I had one, and honestly, I hated it.

We make a relocation, that places the alternator on the p.s bracket. Much like our FD version. Two have been made for the FC so far, with no reported failures. On the plus side it can keep your p.s. which is nice.

joe: if you might be able to make an extra, let me know how much it costs beforehand so i can make sure i got some money for ya

the wankler: hated it? because? i hear some people had some fitting issues, but i couldn't figure out why unless they had a setup different than most people

I made my own when i did it years ago... before anyone sold a bracket.

Just used the ps/ac bracket as the basis, hacked it up... welded on a cut off thermostat housing for mounting the alternator on it, then a small aluminum ear for the original steel adjustment pivot. This method requires the ability to cut and weld aluminum.

No problem with placement. It was just so weak. There was too much flexability in the unit.

After you've eliminated the AC and PS, you relocate the alternator to the side to improve the belt coverage on the water pump pulley - you don't need dual belts with this configuration.

It also has a minor effect on weight distribution (alternator is moved lower and to a side of the engine that has no weight hanging off it any longer), and it opens up space on the top of the motor for anything you might be able to use the space for. In my case I needed the room on top for my ITB's and fuel system components.

Yes, like pengarufoo said...

It is partially for looks for me, just because I think I'd like it on the side since I have a huge hole down there now (never had PS, but removed AC) and it sort of puts it out of the way without being hard to get to (ie: Miata alternator location...who puts their alt at the bottom of the motor??? :/ uggh HARD to work with!)

While I agree with you pengarufoo, for some people it is that cheap to make the item including materials.

When I quote fab jobs I assume $75-100/hour. The local iron works place last I checked (about a year ago) was $98/hour. So unless I can make them in 20 minutes each...... you get the idea. I think it's wonderful that you're offering a unique product at an even better price but don't sell yourself short. The pineapple kit iirc was well over $100 wasn't it?
