alternator frustrations
ok so my alternator was bad..and so was my battery. 2 weeks ago i got a new battery and alternator from pepe boys. a reman alternator with a lifetime warrenty. did a voltmeter test wen i put it in..seemed to be good. a week later all my warning lights starting coming on again(sign on low voltage i believ) and i installed my blitz turbo timer which has a voltmeter in it and it was reading lik 11.4-12.6 i was pissed so today i brought back the alternaotr to exchange it..they tested it and it was only chargin 12. so they have none in stock so i go to kragen pick one up..i had them test this one before i bought it and it was chargin in mid 14's..so i was happy..put it in..and now my car is still only at lik 12.4-13.3 and wen i rev it it does not go up.. whats the problem? the belt is tight..although i think its longer then the stock one..there is no slippage though and no squeaking..could just the fact that the belt is a little longer then stock be an issue? please help im getting very frustrated.
thanks
andrew

Check the voltage from the alternator output to it's housing - should be mid 14's. Now check alternator output to battery neg. If it's not the same you have bad grounds.
Next check the voltage from battery positive to alternator output - should be <0.5 volts. anything more shows a bad primary wire.
