Alternator belt

As it wasn’t running when I got it I can’t say if it was doing it before
Any help would be appreciated

Check that all the pulley's are aligned, especially that the spacer for the alternator is located in the back of the alternator. Also, make sure that all the pulleys are smooth with no burrs, or dents that may rip up belts.

I have this same problem too. About 1500 miles on a belt. Spacer is on the back side of the alternator and the pulleys appear to be inline. The belt does not shred... it just elongates.. i need to tighten it constantly, then it just reaches the end of the arm..... lots of black powder....? The belt material seems very soft to me, but I can't imagine the two belts I installed were bad.

BTW... its a JDM replacement T2.

OK, I finally understood the problem and fixed it a few months ago. If you removed the air pump, your alternaltor belt is carrying the entire water pump load and there is nowhere near enough belt wrap...it basically just skims the side of the water pump. At high speeds or rapid engine wind ups, the belt slips on the water pump pulley..wearing heavily. I purchased the dual groove pulley, installed it with two new belts at the same time. I has never been a problem since. Your other choice is to go back and install the emissions air pump and its belt which to me cluttered the engine compartment. Hope this helps and good luck!!!!

notice the same.

Started with killing 2 belts in 6 days, altenator broken.

Now i got a brand new on it and after a few trips i also noticed black powder. So apparently it was still slipping.

Altenator with dual-belt pully ready to be mountend

It's located where the alt bolts to the housing. The large bolt runs through the front hole for the alt, through the housing, then the spacer and out the back hole of the alt.

If they snapped, have a look at the altenator. Let somebody test it.

Same problem on my S5. Went yoohoo belt option in attempts to fix it. The yoohoo belt gets me home but doesn't keep me from tearing up alt belts. I replaced the alt tonight to no avail. Checked pulley alignment, everything. I use a Bando 2320 belt. What gives?

No, because I want to be able to get my car home if I break one. On a dual belt setup, if you break one, you break the other and you're screwed. I made it 15 miles home after slinging an alt belt at 1am thanks to that little thing!

I just looked it up and the Bando 2320 is .38" (9.5 mm) wide... and the belt I'm using (stock replacement from advance auto) is .44" (11mm) wide.... maybe that's your problem.

It's called deflection, and I have 14-17mm. The factory N350-18-318 belt from Mazda/Mitsuboshi measures 9.5mm wide.

i've run into this too, and the OEM mitsubishi belt fixed the problem, so its either better materials, or the aftermarket are the wrong size. the S4 and S5 use a different part number belt.

N350-18-381 list price is $16.50

J9, I don't think it's the belt or anything other than wiring now.
I disconnected the B terminal from the alt and unplugged the connector, started the car and she didn't make a sound or heat up the alternator at all.
Is it possible I have a short or something somewhere?
The guy that helped me build my engine says just switch to dual belts and I won't have that problem, but I don't have the extra money to spend and I run a yoohoo belt.
Do I have too much resistance somewhere? Where do I need to check with the multimeter and for what?
