Over the past week or so my alt has been slowly putting out less and less voltage......
It went from 14 down to 13, now to 12.....

Is it dead??? Or dying?

 

Sure sounds like it. Getting an alternator tested is free at almost any parts store I know of, so just drive down and have it checked.

mine went out... i got another and now its starting to make a high pitched sound.... this it might be going too.

 

yeah, i thought i was having a battery problem, but got the battery tested and apparently it is fine. it reads 14v when the engine is on, and 12v when engine is off. the thing that is wierd is that when i was doing a compression test, i could only turn it over a few times, and that it wouldn't do it anymore. maybe it is the starter?

but i would say that if it is reading only 12v with the engine running, it is prob the alternator...check the battery too though, if it loses charge over time, then be safe and get that tested too...

 

It sounds like your Alternator Is taking a dive. Have It load tested...If It's no good - you know what I am going to recommend.

 

Are you still selling them, Silver? Cause I'm gonna buy one NOW if you are...

 

maybe the belt is wearing out and sliping, that's what mine seems to be doing event thow I tighten it quite good.

But then again I bought one from silverrotor (thanks), so ill see what happens when I install the new one.


when belt starts to slip does it mean the alt is goin.

 

thats what happened to mine, but I wouldn't know why it does that

 

I hate to go over with what I said prior but yes, I still have 10 Single and 10 Double Pulley FD Alternators left.
