Alt broke, no power now

Sum up along story, went all over cali recently. Heading back up 5 I noticed my gauge was reading 16v (even higher) so I kept stuff maxed to lower it...

So anyways I get to my house after like 180mi and park, I go to drive later... no more random screeching sounds, and the volts were normal

After driving along ways I notice my lights slowly dim, after a bit we find out the alt belt was just chilling there. So I get a screwdriver and wedge it back on \

Go drive, the alt didn't seem to have an affect (normally the lights brighten and such whenever the throttle is touched for years its been like that)

pewf my car dies, now she lies in some road I got no idea where so I'm gonna go search for my car soon... anything that would cause a no charge issue or did the alt go kaput from the extra spinning with the belt on the outside of pully?

\_/
^ pully, belt was on outside im guessing which caused it to spin faster, I did rev it up a bit a few times near 8k so im guessing it blew it, which sucks because no store has a new rx7 alt

Actually if above was the case the alt would spin slower as the pulley would be larger. Hence why if you see an alt overdrive pulley they are smaller than stock.
As for you problem. Easy thing to do would be pick up an alt from the junkyard and swap it when you find your car. Considering it takes all of 5 minutes to change the alt out. Hopefully that helps, but yeah, it certainly didn't die from being spun faster as it wasn't, if I'm understanding your diagram correctly of course, looks like you said the belt was somehow riding the outer lip of the pulley.

yeah you got me, your right it would underdrive it.

So maybe the receterfier went bad? At idle it'd drop low low voltage and at 3k it'd be 16 1/2 sooo I have no idea!

Not much RX7's here, not sure if my lady friend wants to drive me all over to junk yards (I dont even know any around me) I did find a FD alt at a near by store I'm gonna look at if it would fit

Whats your guy's opinion on the FD alt? My dad had this one rebuilt and it gave nothing but issues over the past few years so maybe an FD alt would be a smarter choice instead of another junky 80amp

edit-

crap, no stores even have a FD alt, ugh

not makin much money recently otherwise I would do that

Anybody know of a common alternator that fits s5 fc decently? I cant find any FD/FC alts, I read taurus requires modification, the tempo alt does look close as I read but can anybody back this up?

im thinking bout taking the alt off to the store, get a similar alt, change pullies and wire it up

They got my corksport exhaust, radio, amp, sub, debit card, expensive knife, few dollars, tools sigh

WHO STEALS AN EXHAUST?!

Anyways, I got a tempo alt!

It's slightly different, fit okay... the B terminal sticks out more but i put rubber so it doesnt flow + to the UIM

The pully is different, about a inch wide with abunch of grooves, do you guys think the old alts pully could fit?

Also do you guys think the new alt is slipping enough that it doesnt work decent? I tried to rev it up a tad but the belt slips more (The volts dont even spike)

I think the connectors might be backwards, the tempo alt had the same connector... I hear its not that big of a deal so maybe thats why my gauge was reading a tad off, seemed to be the BATT level, not the alt as i let the car idle it slowly went from 11 to 12.5

You need to change the pully. You need the vbelt pully and you have a pully for a serpantine belt. You'll need an air gun to swap them out though.

I've never got the alt pulley off without one. Good luck if you don't, you could probably take it to a shop and they could zip it off and on in a couple minutes for cheap if you ask nice.

Remove the pulley like the FSM demonstrates in the ENGINE ELECTRIAL section.

Just four long bolts with 8mm heads hold the two halves together. Then pull it apart using a small common screwdriver blade as demonstrated in the FSM, ENGINE ELECTRICAL section.

When apart, you hold the rotor in place, making sure you don't damage the rotor coils and undo the pulley nut.

The only possible problem with that is, you need to find a small piece of wire to insert thru the back of the alternator body to hold the two brushes in place as you put the two halves of the alternator back together.

The wire needs to be .040" to .050"in diameter and about two to three inches long.

Shop put on the old pulley

I was kinda sceptical at first because i herd this weird metal like screetching sound, but then it went away i think. The alt is STRONG. At idle turning on everything on high only drops the rpms like 100 or so (No i didnt charge my batt, i let the alt do it too) after a day of driving on and off now my batt sits at 12.5 volt and hardly drops when i start her

Feels like a new car, besides the open exhaust lol... i was really angry that they stole my exhaust but hell it's alil fun setting off car alarms just tapping the throttle at idle LOL

So anyways whoever reads, the tempo alt is a almost DIRECT drop in besides the pully, I still need to shorten the B terminal (the part on our stock alts doesnt fit...) the b terminal is like a half cm away from the throttle body so i made sure the rubber cover and put some cardboard inbetween so it doesnt short, but with a dremel it could be easially fixed

What is the info for the tempo alt?

Year of Tempo it came from or a part number would help a lot.

Nice find, thanks.
