alt. belt sqeaks even after tightening it

car is an s4 86 n/a. my belt would used to sqeak frequently...then afer tightening it stopped completely, then it would sqeak again, but not as frequent... the belts arent worn out either... should i just get better pullies, hoping that'll grip the belt better?

make sure all belts are good and amke sure all belts are tight. to tighten the ac/ps belt, what you need to do is loosen the lock nut on the front of the idler pulley and adjust tension by turning the 10mm bolt for each pulle on top of the aluminum accessory bracket. once you get your desired tension, tighten teh locknut.

fwiw, i've had problems with gates belts slipping (even when new) on my 7's. i switched to dayco belts and alll is well. seemed that teh gates belts were stretching too much.

Maybe worth it to check the alignment of the alternator, don't S4's have a narrow mounting boss and use a spacer?
Don't know about Dayco belts...I do know that I had a whiny alt belt (new, but not sure of the brand) that was instantly cured with a Goodyear Gatorback belt.
One time experience so hardly enough to form a Gatorback fan club, just thought I'd mention it.

My friend had a noisy pulley on his alternator, tried tightening the belt, taking it off, inspecting, putting back on differently, retightening, bought a new belt and went through all that again. Somehow he never checked the pulley and spacer...

gator backs are the way to go. spend the extra 5 bucks and get a good belt. also could check for rusty pully's.
