alohol powered rx7, for inspection my car is failing

i was told by someone that if your car will not pass inspections that you could pur about 3 bottles of alcohol in your tank and run on alcohol only to the place your inspection will take place. he said it will burn clean ofcourse but you would have to drive real slow and then get gas immediately after. is there any truth to this. my car is failing hydrocarbons horribly. would this overheat your engine?

look in the archive for the How to pass emisions thread, its a delicate procedure, and if you have a turbo don't dare do it

i don't know just seems like you would run really lean with alcohol in a turbo, and wouldn't it combust quicker? higher temps? well read that archived thread, and someone with a trubo II has pulled it off but i remember people saying it was lucky

I have a single turbo FD and it works great on my car. The short explanation is....

run tank down to 1/4 on the best gas you can find. (93, 94, whatever)
now add in 1 gallon of denatured alcohol (from Sherwin Williams or Home Depot)
Drive with no turbo boost or high rpm until fully warmed up. Go take the test.
After you pass, fill the tank to the top with good quality gas.

Drive carefully until that tank is empty, fill back up with your regular gas.

wargasm, thanks for the info. i am still nervous about running alcohol in my car. don't want to ruin anything. i failed the hc's by about 400 points. the alcohol trick should work, it does burn clean. would it also work if i ran my car until it was about empty added one gallon of gas and a 1/4 gallon of alcohol, the gas station is right next to wher i would get my car inspected. just don't want that alcohol in my car too long.
