For all you GTUs lovin' guys...

Thought I needed to make you jealous. I got 2 in my driveway

One is a black 90 with 182k, and a fresh rebuild. Just got it running today, nice and smooth. IT's gonna get e-fan, intake and exhaust before it leaves.

The other is a red 89 with 138k, and its still blown up. In fact, I pulled its engine today. IT gets rebuilt adn repainted as well as a new fender adn front end. As you can see, it needs it. And yes, Im aware those are old GXl rims on it, they were put on by the owner so he could ride ont eh GTUs rims on his other rex while I work on this one. Neither car is actually mine, theyre both rebuild customers' rides.

Yo,

Coolness, thanks for the pics! You usually don't see 2 GTUs in the same place, especially the seldom-seen black GTUs. I'm glad you're keeping them running nice and strong! Good job!

Anywhere from $800-1800 depending on what's wrong, and what you want done(how tight/like new you want it).

Standard rebuild includes atkins 2pc apex seals, gasket kit, corner seal plugs, adn runs $800 if your engine does not need any parts replaced, such as rotors/housings). IF you need a 86-8 NA engine, I have enough parts on hand to outright build you a new one and you just return a core later, or keep your core and pay an extra $100. I do not have enough parts for other engines to build one ahead of time...depends on what engine you need.

I really recommend the following stuff be done as well, for an additional couple hundred bucks.

corner seal springs, FD heavy duty
oil seals
side seal springs
front adn rear main seals
oil thermo bypass pellet

Streetporting is available from mild to heavy for an additional $150.

IF you really had bank lying around and wanted a tight motor, you could opt for new rotor housings, which run in the range of $425 each. IF you did this there would be ver little break in time, adn you'd have a full-compression motor to start off. Reusing old housings leaves a 2-4,000 mile breakin time required..the engines are a bit weak for a rebuild in the beginning, and gain strength every day. As the new seals wear together to the old housings compression raises and power/smoothness as well. But, even when you first start them, theyre pretty smooth running engines, you jut cant push them for a while. That black GTus is idling outside at 750 as we speak, and it has 48 miles on it.

IF you or anyone else are interested pm me or emial me hypntyz@charter.net

Im getting mine rebuilt now, and I have new rotor housings. So I will have like new compression and there for my break in time is like....500 -1500 miles then? I never thought of that when you reuse the old ones, makes alot of sense though. Hypntyz7 you give alot of good info and seem fast at doing your rebuilds and all. Wish you were up north vBut I have a very good guy doing mine and all but doesnt seem like any work is getting done I know hes backed up but **** I need my car back! lol

Ive done more work for guys up[ north than anywhere...TO them it has been worth the tow down and drive back home in their new car. I can get a rebuild done, in about 2 dsays if need be. OF course, you pay for that ***-busting service

As for breakin with new housings, about 500 miles would be my best guess. BE easy on it for a while, but it should be pretty tight right from the start.

You do know that that price is in addition to the regular rebuidl labor charge, sice you do have to tear the engine completely apart and rebuild it in order to do porting.

Right?

Kevin, you said you could build an 86-8 NA engine out of new parts you have layin around. How much would you charge for one, and I would send you my core.

With no porting, no accessories mounted, and the "recommended package" listed above(I think) would be around $1000, assuming you return a core and before shipping, which I prefer for you to arrange. I didnt notice where you are located, but if you dont plan to ship then the core charge is worth it to you...if you do plan to ship, its easier for you to just pay the core charge and save on return shipping.

Black GTUs

Kevin- Tell the owner of tha black '90 to hold on to it. When I bought mine, there were two new '90 GTUs on the dealer's lot- a black one and a red one. I bought the red one. Have never seen another black '90 GTUs since. Anyone know how many of the 100 made were black? When John Matras photo'ed mine for his book, I found out about the 100 unit production run in 1990, but did not know what colors were available.
