All show and no go! Whats really going on?
O.k. check this out. I'm new to the RX-7 family, and all my 9years of driving I've always wanted to feel the drivers seat of and RX-7. (cars owend ACURA-integra 99gsr,90legend ls,87legendv6,-Toyota-supra87 mark4 n/a Pontiac- grand am 2001 gt v6. These are just some of the cars i have owned in the past two years and was'nt satisfied with their performance (w/mods) on a average working mans wage. So being told all my life and hearing the storys of how fast and great and sporty the RX-7 is(gen1-2)(we all know the gen3rules).I thought heck i want one. We none RX-7 drivers are scared to go to the line next to a rex do to the fact of its so called performance and power(stock or non). So thats what i want now screw all theses other small fries i want the all mighty powerful rotory machine. Well i searched and looked everywhere for the right one and i did find it. 1989 vert black stick and perfect interior with 102,000 miles for 4g's.The same one was for sale at the other dealer across the street for 8g's and it was an auto. So i got a good deal! Anyways my whole story is i hate this dang car. It's hella slow it runs great i have complete tune up cust.cold AIT. (not one of those stupied ones that get the air from the head light, i have one that runs down to the air dam. Anyways the car it tip top. Well here are the list of cars i have raced the past month that i have had my car.
1)93 honda accord w/mods........won!
2)93 nissan maxima w/mods.......lost!
3)96 nissan altima w/mods.......lost!
4)91 acura integra w/mods.......lost!
5)97 dodge neon-stock......won
6)99 dodge neon w/mods......lost
7)00 nissan maxima drivin by an old lady-stock......LOST!
8)93 acura vigor w/mods........lost
9)97 honda civic-stock......lost
10)00 honda civic vetc si w/mods.....lost
NEED I GO ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe you should have done a little more research if you were buying a car to be fast. The vert RX-7 is the slowest RX-7 made. It was built for show and cruising around with the wind in your hair. If you wanted a fast car, you should have bought a TII. If you had, you wouldn't be complaining about how slow it is. Truth is, N/A RX-7's are slow unless you heavily mod them. I know because I own one, and it is slow in a straight line. In fact, they never even sold N/A FC's in Japan, they only sold turbo FC's. TII's can be made fast relatively easy.
Point: Don't bitch about having a slow car when it was your choice to buy the slowest FC made.

A stock Vert, is not going to be Fast. If you want just straightline speed, you bought the wrong car. Now if you do some mods, it will be better, but Rx-7's are better on twisty roads. Tha's when you'll leave all those other cars behind. If you want speed, get a Turbo rex.
I was too slow.

ok you guys wanna flame? kool! first of all for the third time it isnt stock. 89 rx7 vert or none vert the car still has 160 hp and its a rear wheel drive stick that red lines a 8000 rpm i have a 87 acura legend 4 door sedan that weighs more its and auto ,front wheel drive v6 with 150 hp that won all most every dang race ive hit up. and that was my slowest car. so just face it the rx 7 is hella slow and you guys have been bullshited your whole lives that now you just belive it! So your stuck with a car that smokes over heats, and back fires like its forth of july in NYC.(just comming out of the factory line) So dont get mad at me cuz i no a real car from a fake.

But the vert is the heaviest rex. I have seen some sick Verts before, but most are for cruisin. My 91 n/a w/ full exhaust (header to tip), upgraded clutch (CAP high perf), cone intake, and removed emissions and p/s dusted ANY ricer I raced, and would even run with Trans Ams (97 and a 99) on the highway. Yes, it has 160hp, but unless you have some serious mods, it is gonna be pretty sluggish. Also, ever considered it is the DRIVER and not the CAR? What are these "mods" you have done?

RX-7's are fake cars? O.o
Anyway, the ragtop isn't the best choice, and with just a CAI you're not going to get much. You need to do the exhaust too. Then you need to work with freeing up the crank load, such as an alternater underdrive pulley (I'm not sure about the '89, but on the '86 this allows you to get rid of the air pump too), then blocking off the EGR and ACV. While you're there don't forget some cooling stuff, electric fan and a Aluminum Radiator.
Simply put, you'll need to mod it more. It's true they're not the fastest stock, I was disappointed in mine when I first got it from my 1G Eclipse GS-T, and I would have gotten a TII if I could have found one. But this is what I'm stuck with, and I'm not complaining, the engine has 160k miles on it and it still runs and pulls like a new engine. Fear rotary.
Oh and of course: Got Nitrous?

You're obviously an uneducated ricer, go buy a honda and crawl back into whatever hole you came from. Do you actually think an 87 legend is fast?
Ever stop to think you can't drive a stick? That's why you can only win races with your auto? Just a thought.
You don't seem to be listening, N/A's are not meant to be straight liners (neither are T2's really). They belong on the auto x track.
If your RX-7 smokes, over heats and backfires constantly it certainly isn't running at it's best.

Dude, he has a stick, not an auto. No need to get ugly with him guys.
If the engine is running that bad that it backfires and smokes, it is not in good shape. Plus, it is 100K+ miles, so it will not be 160hp, and it is 160hp at the flywheel, not to the ground.
My first race ever was against a 86 SE rx-7. He was bone stock, and I had an intake. He crushed me. After learing how to drive my rotary rocket (and yes, driving a Wankle is very different than any other engine out there) I had fun winning over and over and over.

I have fun sporting around in my 91NA. If I really need to go fast, I borrow my wife's Northstar Caddy. (I know it's off topic) But how about this for a fast sleeper - a Northstar in a Fiero?

16.8 @83.1 in the 1/4 mile. OBVIOUSLY not made for drag racing. It's made for lookin cool and pimpin hoes
Shoulda bought a TII if you wanted to eat maxima's. Even thogh they are uber-heavy and wrong-wheel-drive, 255-260hp nicely makes up for their mommybox qualities.

What you choped your springs? you probably hurt your performance..
But if you know so much about cars why ever would you buy a vert? they are heavy pigs.. not ment to be racecars..
haha, this is just too funny...

Dude you are really starting to **** me off. Wow your acura was faster. Do you want a cookie?? I dont know if you know this but its not how much power you have, but it all depends on your power/weight ratio. And yes you definately bought the wrong RX-7 to go fast in. Get a TII and stop your bitchin.

7th:
If you want to go NA, sell your vert and buy a 84-85 GSL-SE, they would be the fastest NA RX-7s.. If you are set on a Second Gen RX-7, then get a GTU or GTUs They are both the best 2nd gen RX-7 for handleing and speed..
Now, if i was gonna buy one, i would definatly buy a TII... You spent about $4K, you could pick up a nice TII for that amount.. the verts are the most expensive..
checkout http://www.thepartstrader.com
good luck..

No, they don't... I don't see how you could complain.. you did 0 research and bought the wrong car.. I mean you bought a car for middle aged men on a budget.. a $4K vert. what do you expect? Of course it isn't fast..
Ways to make it faster:
13BT swap
Ported 13B 4 port swap.
Bolt on a turbo (engine won't last to long)
Bolt on a Nitrous kit (Engine won't last to long)
Loose some weight.
Make sure your 6 ports are opening..

2. Most people here DO THEIR OWN WORK.
3. Street racing game. WOW! It's just that.
4. I'd put money on the fact that your 6 ports aren't functioning correctly.
5. You cut your springs? I'm not even going to touch that one with a 10 foot pole.
6. You use race gas everywhere you drive?
Congratulations, you did pick the heaviest vert, 200 pounds heavier than the 88 (but you do get a bonus of 18HP). You MAY be making 175-180 BHP. So your back down to 145-150 RWHP.
As far as whining about high redlines, high redlines do not equate into power.
Just curious, didn't you drive this car before you bought it? Stop whining about it being slow, and use the search button up top to LEARN HOW TO MAKE A N/A GO FAST.

Your problem is that you bought the slowest RX7 you can possibly buy, with the exception of an auto vert. If youre looking for "zip around town" with the top down fun...keep it. If you wanna win races, sell it and buy a turbo II.
