well it seems to be armed by locking the car doors and closing them, disarmed by putting a key in a door handle and unlocking it, and set off by any other means of unlocking the car.

I've read that the 10AE's had a sound sensor.
The rest of ours will trip only when unlocked or opened from the inside.

OH... so those little things haging around on cars with alarms are sound sensors ? someone told me they where movement sensors... I guess thats why my opel corsa with straight exhaust fires up alarms when I go full trothle :P

No, they are Ultra Sonics... precursers to todays feild sensors that detect movement inside the vehicle

They are mass movement Ultra sonics, not sound sensors and they don't work if you leave the windows down or the roof open. They will just false with the car open like that.

They have nothing to do with the stereo so I don't get your point

The stock alarms are crap, i had to replace the door lock and hood triggers when I bought my car and then two months later it wouldn't arm again. So I desided to get a REAL alarm!

Actually the stock alarm in both my FCs works flawless...Not too many aftermarket systems can say that after 16 years.

The stock systems were ahead of their day when new, with the only thing they were missing was a remote control and power door locks in both doors.
