Angry TO all prodrifters!!!

Ive noticed alot of PRODRIFTERs on this forum. Sorry I doubt most of you are as good as you are condeceding. STOP IT. If people want to go drift stlye let them. If they have the skill to back it up then good, if not they bust up thier car, so what. Drifting maybe a fad but stop acting like you are a pro, unless you are.
Im slidingsky for a reason, Im not very good yet. BUT still be more understanding toward others. Sorry to vent but Im tired of everyone who want a drift car being called a punk trendy kid.

Theres always been a few drifters on the board since I can remember. I dont know if youre one of them but I dont see these guys getting called trendy punk kids. Recently theres been ALOT of new people asking about drift exhausts, drift suspensions, drift tires... They all popped out of nowhere at the same time. Sounds like the beginning of a trend to me by "punk racers"

they arent asking how to drift...they are asking how to make their cars look like drift cars (the so called "drift style"). as we all know, the look has everything to do with the skill, as does what other people think of the car. i better go add some stickers to my car or something.

well personally I've never understood the point of drifting. I guess it makes you "look cool" to 16 year olds, but it's horribly slow and pointless.

Once you see your first drift contest that mentality will just fade away...http://www.exvitermini.com/mvarious.htm and look for the Evo drifting video (get #1 or #3 to see the outside view...best off get #1 for a full view). I love drifting, road racing/grip racing is still my favorite, but I still love drifting too not to mention the extreme car control you have to have to do it!

Drifting is fun. I had no idea there was a "drift look" and "drift exhaust" and such. I use my stock '86 GXL and I can drift just fine with it.

haha thats in my sig, I don't drift my car...it's a little ridiculous unless you're on a track and it's certainly not the fastest way to drive. I do LOVE the way FC's and silvias from Japan look though...very angry and functional yet still pretty (except for the really hacked cars). Styling-wise it's usually a nice front spoiler and some side skirts and the car is pretty low. don't knock option magazine

Uhmm. I've had to drift for racing before (rally). That's the ONLY time it's worthwhile. Sorry, but I've seen plenty of ghey drift contests with and the only cool thing is when someone wrecks. I just don't understand why you'd want to drift on a grip surface except to "look cool".

People can love drifting as much as they want, i'm just posting my opinion, not trying to change others.

EXactly drifting is not really functional, what is it for.... looks, show, and STYLE!. Drifting is a style. Its is not functional, atleast not what they do at driftsession and D1.

slidingsky, theres more then one type of drifting as has been pointed out many times in the past. so more or less in your previous statement, its "drifting" as you know it.

So we can't make fun of the "drift style" people anymore? Awwww, come ON! That's like saying "No poking fun at the ricers" or "Don't talk crap about lawyers."(What's the difference between a dead lawyer on the road, and a dead snake on the road?)

To me, it comes down to this: Ask intelligent questions, earn my respect. Ask stupid questions, earn my pity and sympathy. Ask REALLY stupid questions, and you're going to get made fun of. Sorry, that's life(or at least, the internet version of it).

Steve

P.S. (The snake has skidmarks in front of it...)

God dammit there isnt a drift look or a drift style......unless your copying the fact that you have to camber the **** out of your tires so you can get optimal grip so go ahead and copy that and wear your tires out in a day....im sick of this drift style this drift style that.... get the **** off the bandwagon and go do something else...I myself am not some self proclaimed drifter i study it i watch it i learn it.....basically i like doing it but its not something i do around every corner or go to some drift purpose only track like in hawaii....its just for fun and its an artform....JUST my vent on this subject also sorry for all the pottymouth

ive been sliding for years now, before anyone ever even heard of drift. im not an expert but i can hold my own. i take drifting pretty seriously, and when i see someone reducing the type of driving i love to an aesthetic style it pisses me off. i will run off any little child that comes up asking dumb questions about drift. the susp. setup questions are ok, i dont mind those, but the "drift style" exhausts is where i draw the line. i understand that these folks have to start learning somewhere, so ill help out, but if i get the impression that the person is just getting into drift because of watching too many option videos or Initial D i WILL be rude to them. why? bottom line is that i dont want them out putting a bad name on guys like me who are really into the drift. guys who dont do it cuz its cool or anything, but they do it cuz they love it, and they are only happy on the edge of sanity and traction. guys that are the "true" drifters. i hold my ground and will not be changed, i dont want drift to become the new rice trend and i will do whatever i have to keep that from happening.

I think the 'style' just refers to how some of those cars in the Jap. magazines typically look...FC's, S13's & S14's, AE86's and the like in Option 2 and revspeed and carboy magazines where they cover drift events and show these cars in action a lot. I dunno what all the fuss is about, it's all in good fun and the enjoyment of tinkering and modifying our cars, right guys??

there isn't really a "style"(appearence wise) when it comes to drifting.. it's just a display of skill in ones control of a vehicle.. Drifting isnt really a form of racing, unless competing with other cars that are drifting.. if you are skillful enough you can drift any car, regardless of slanted exhuast, miss-matched rims, slammed sus. etc....

FC Drifter: I applaud you for your passion. However, one might say that you are the one who is putting a bad name on drifters due to your attitude towards some new "drifters". One must except all those who wish to do something, otherwise it makes you and the "sport" (using the term very very loosely) look bad.

I'm not a fan of drifting obviously. It practically every environment it's a waste. If you want to do it for fun, then fine, do it for fun.. on a safe location (track, autox, etc) and not on the street (which IMO makes you worse than street racers, at least they don't purposely test the limits of themselves).

I know people that want to drift, and I laugh at them all the time (they are initial D wannabe's). I know for a fact that they have far less car control than I do (And I don't have much, nor does anyone on this board most likely when you compare us to "real" drivers) and I know they will just end up wrecking their ****, and they have. Sadly, anyone with experience in road racing has plenty of car control skills to control your average drift. It's much harder to control an at the limits----oops- just passed the limits slide at 110mph around a turn :P but then, sliding is not drifting, even though the two are often confused. It does amuse me to hear "did you see that drift I did?" at an autox when in related all they did was exceed the amoutn of traction available and slide the car, or lift throttle to induce rotation in a FWD car, etc.

Wow...so uhmm do you have eyes?
Maybe you should read the "drift style" exhaust... there is definately a drift oriented/influenced style in certain cars...

And no, you cannot drift any car... FWD cars DON'T drift (in the japanese definition...(look it up... ))

When I drive, whether it be grip, drift, or rally, I'm out there to have fun... thats what its all about after all...

...so chill, let the drifters have the fun while you grip guys do your thing...

...me, I'll be sideways in the dirt, thank you!

Technically, you're not supposed to, but I've seen some Hawaii guys that'll make you arch your eyebrow...I know I did.

Yeah, there are some REALLY good FWD guys out there (I'm decent...) but they are still unable to apply power on corner exit without straightening the car... it's just part of the whole vehicle dynamic... (but its a great thing to have when you are completely sideways on dirt, coming up fast on a 90 degree corner... not that I do that or anything )

But being a FWD guy myself, crazy asses in FWD cars sliding their *** around the track get mad props!!

Gotta love insanity
(talkin 'bout myself now... lol.... done too many stupid things... )

man do I wish that were true. I can floor my FWD car all I want if it's *** end comes out on sebring, homestead, etc and the damned thing will RARELY come back straight.

A fast FWD "grip" setup will own your *** on a track, under full power or not. I've been under full power in a FWD car to just have the back end decide to slide out, and since it's already floored......

edit: doh typed turbo meant FWD car. lol

I dunno, it works great for me... and just about everyone else I'e talked to... it's not just flooring it, it's modulating the gas pedal...
(unless you drive a stock 97 corolla, in which case you have to floor it to do ANYTHING)

Uhmm... no...
FWD cars will tend to understeer at the limit... even with proper suspension modifications they will still suffer from oversteer.
And FWD owning RWD?
Funny how most race cars are RWD, eh?
