ahh the infamous electronic problems that our cars seem to suffer!!!

mine does the same thing ever now and then on a hot day.... every now and then a few lights will work like the're supposed to!!!!

i thing that the S5 got rid of most of the problems but I haven't have a first hand encounter yet!!!

All my Idiot lights went off when I was on the highway (Interstate as Americans call It). Turned out my Alternator Belt snapped. So Instead of the Battery light going off, they all went off. Strange, this has happened to someone else I know too.

I thought that meant that your car has detected an idiot at the controls

IF, your cpu/idoit lights/clock are function properly, then ALL the lights are SUPPOSED to come on when turning the ignition key.

Its just a quick system check. Then all the ones that aren't registering some sort of condition should turn off.

YEP.
Way back in 1987 our idiot lights used to light up all at once when the key first turned in the ignition.

Now, 2002, my gas light doens't even come on when I'm low on fuel, LOL!!!
