Could i get just a roll bar, and not a full roll cage? So it would be more streetable, legal, cop-friendly, whatever...and more cost effective? That is, if i go down the 5-point harness route.

Rolled FC found on cardomain
here is the link http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/198762/1
that kinda shows the FC held up pretty well. if anythign i'd go with at least a 4 point harness and a better seat.

How was the driver? Does this mean FC's roll safely with a harness, though? I saw that you need some roll protection if you get a harness. SO can i just get one roll bar rather than the full cage?

Is a harness as safe/safer than an airbag? During a frontal collision, doesnt the car crumple into you, and the airbag cushion that? If you were in a harness, you would just sit there and get crumpled right? Or is it the momentum that you still have, falling into the wheel the airbag is for, and then would the harness be safer? Any professional facts on this, government safety stuff? please help.

If airbag is so important to you, buy a different car. You will not find a shop to retrofit an airbag for you legally, as it cannot legally be done.
They are highly over-rated. I survived a 100+mph offet-frontal impact (supposedly the most-devastating kind) in my 85 Z31 wearing only the stock 3-point belt, which didn't even latch properly. Limped away with a sprained nose and ankle. No injuries incurred when I was rear ended at 45 mph impact and my head went foreward a good enough distance that it would've been smacked by an airbag (if one existed) in my S13.
Mousebelts are no less safe than conventional belts unless they are not functioning properly. The "passive belts" that were found to be dangerous were ones that mount to the doors and remain buckled, such as on early Z32s, 3rd generation Preludes, etc.

Effectiveness of Occupant Protection Systems and Their Use. (link below) Nothing is said about the 2 varieties of belts you say. Just manual and automatic. However most "mouse" belts do not have the shoulder belt tight against the shoulder which is not a good design for any seatbelt.

That study grouped all "automatic" belts together, which includes "mousebelts" and the door-mounted kind I mentioned.
I'll admit, I did not reference a study, however I approached it from a design perspective.
Mousebelts, at least on my S13, lock into place when they are in the "belted in" position. There is still a latching tensioner, just as on a standard belt.
However, on a door-mounted belt, in a heavy impact, the door could be forced either out of position or open completely, effectively either A) destroying the calculated belt geometry and tension levels, or B) rendering it completely useless.

Convert to airbags?
Crazy idea. Might as well convert to FWD at the same time. And add a rocket booster and retractable hydrofoils for ocean crossings.
You really have to know what you are doing, because the bag is highly explosive and can kill you if it discharges during assembly.
Really, dude, just get an old Civic if you need airbags. Otherwise, give the RX a paint job and some cool wheels.
