air pump unhooked..rehook or toss it

mines an 87 non turbo 13b...i baught the car and the air pump belt was missing, line disconnected from the cats but the pump is still in place. i did a little research on the whole 5th and 6th ports thing but cant quite figure it out yet some people say to hook it back up and some say to take it out along with the cats(which are shot anyway) then wire open the ports...any input?

main problem with wiring the ports open is the loss of low-end power...the air pump, being the source for your aux ports, obviously needs to be there, unless you can dream up another setup (and a lot of guys on this forum have)...if you remove the cats, you WILL NOT have enough back pressure to open the ports...

his is an '87, so the air pump does basically nothing to open the aux ports, but if he removes the cat, they wont work anyway. I have the racing beat presilencer, and it works the aux ports perfectly. There are some other exhaust setups out there that are supposed to work them, too, but im not sure how well they work. As for wiring the ports open, it sucks. My car was like that when I got it, and it had no low end power. It was kinda like having a turbo; you didnt have much low end power, but it picked up a lot at about 3500.

if you take it out, then i'm opt you to buy a dual alt pulley. you'll need your water pump to cool your motor.
