Air Pump Removal

Well, its really not asking how to do, but more of an understanding of everything. I know the air pump is supposed to help with smog emissions and all. What are the three metal hoses people keep on telling me to take off and all sorts of other stuff. I talk to other RX-7 people and they start pointing and saying "Take that off you don't need that" and blah. But I don't understand what all this stuff is, basically i just want to know more about the car.

Also what are other things you can take off when you first get the car, and is it correct to flip the MAF over?

Well, the air pump is part of the secondary air injection system...

The operation is outlined in the FSM..

well it says in your profile that you have an S4 TII if that is still true then you don't need it if you no longer have any funcional cats. YOu may remove it if you wish. J-rat is refering to the S5 N/a cars which require the pump to actuate the auxilary ports.

Actually, the airpump does more then just actuate the 6-ports. But the other functions are trivial. I believe its part of the Anti-afterburn function. OF course It supplies fresh air to the cats in order to aid in catalyst.

The metal lines that every one is talking about is the rats nest under the intake manifold. And it is just one more part of emisions and can be take out but you need to find a write up on it, and that will help alot.

IF you want to know more about emissions (air pump, ACV, etc),
you may want to take a peek at my webpage (in sig) under 'emissions'->'secondary air'
