Question Air Pump Questions

I have heard that if the airpump is removed from my car, my 4th and 5th ports will not work... I have also heard that is not true and that my 4th and 5th ports are reliant on back pressure created by the exhaust...
**
1. What are the consequences to removing the pump (loss of power, ports wont open, etc.)?
2. Will it pass emisions in a emissions enforcing county in Texas with the pump removed?
3. I have heard that you can make the ports open electronically so that they are not dependent on the back pressure or air pump... Is this true and how is it done?
**
If I don't get the crap to finish my fuel system soon, I will end up totally gutting my car!!!! Anyway... Please help... I know this discussion has been had but I get conflicting stories...

Answer number 1: The s5 rely on that airpump for the opening of the 5th 6th port...if you were s4 then the ports open from back pressure
Answer number 2: Without the air pump you cant pass in california...might as well aim for the highest standards that way you can for sure pass the lower
Answer number 3:There a thread that fc3sorg.com put up for that....it relies on a electric rpm switch...a small pump and lots of wires...I guess search "electronic auxiliary actuation" or something along those lines

The fifth and sixth ports are in the lower intake manifold, I think... But I would not take my word for it... I put a picture of what I think it is in here... Again... Dont take my word for it... Please correct me if I am wrong... Thanks "86TwinTurbo" for the well organized and thorough answers...

C.A.R.- the pic you posted is of the Middle intake manifold with the VDI (variable dynamic intake). IF i am not mistaken, what that does is create a pressure wave inside of the intake path to keep air velocity stable and should open up around 5500 rpm or around there (not sure on the exact rpm)

If you look on your LIM you should see two actuators. Those are attached to rods that extend through the manifold to rotate a set of "sleeves" in your 5 & 6 ports. If i am not mistaken, they should be fully open around the same time your secondaries come online (3800 rpm??) Again i am not ABSOLUTELY sure but fairly posotive.

Download the FSM and look in the "Fuel and Emission" section

Yesterday while changing all of my vacuum lines I broke a solenoid valve switch in the rats nest... It must have been meant to be... It is the one that controls my 5th and 6th ports... I was out in my garage blowing on vacuum line an watching them open and close... I appreciate it "loskeezy"... I now know where the aux ports are... Is there any other systems that rely on the Air pump...?

The stock cat relies on the air pump, more of less. Without it, the cats will fry. It also helps with emissions, which you probably need being in arlington.
