Air pump problem! Help needed

Hey guys. For whatever reason, my father thought that the air pump could have been the cause of my cold start issues. For more read https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/still-having-engine-problems-465097/

Anyway, what happened today, was I went to loosen the air pump belt adjustment bolt, and sheared the head right off it. I had a spare air pump that didn't work. I took it all apart, and made it spin freely without anything in it. I've got it rebuilt now, and it spins roughly, but it does spin. I had to borrow the gasket from the one on the car, so its now dead. I'm curious if I can put a rough turning air pump on the car and expect it to work. To give you an idea, if I put the pulley in a vice, I can turn it, but that's about it.

Now, if I can't get a replacement air pump, or you guys don't think that's a good idea, can I run without the air pump? My car is an n/a with a K&N filter. I should have a freeflow exhaust system coming soon, with no cats.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
