air pump

What's up guys. Can anyone tell me the pros/cons of removing the air pump on my 1990 na?

It does two things:
1. Provides air to your catalytic converter so it can reduce HC and CO emissions without melting. Removing the air pump and keeping your cat is very bad.
2. Provides air pressure to open your auxillary ports, which improves high RPM horsepower. About 25 HP IIRC. They also close at low RPMs to improve low RPM torque.

If you were running a track car with no cat and jimmied up an alternate way to open your auxillary ports, or had a turbo (which has no aux ports), then you could remove your air pump.

^ i thought the s5 dosent use the air pump to open the ports?
