What are the pros and cons on removing the air pump? Should I remove it?

 

Well, do you have to meet emissions? do you have a 6 port NA? If you answer no to both of those questions, then pull the damn thing off, but if you must meet emissions then you have to replace the air pump once a year for the smog test. Or you can find a crooked shop that will (for a little money) say you met emissions. If you have a 6 port NA, you must either remove the sleeves or wire open the ports if they are actuated by the air pump(89+).

I have an 87 TII, and here in Mississippi they could care less abotu emissions. So my question is can I pull the air pump off of my model car? Are there any other modifications I need to do after pulling it off like plugging up hoses, holes, etc? What kind of power gains can I expect from doing it?

 

For the 87TII just make sure you have no cats, or that they are at least gutted because without the pump they will clog.

 

No cats at all, just pure, unadultarated 3" stainless steel all the way the back to the final mufflers! Any ideas on power gains?
