air pump

air pump

was looking over engine today and noticed their wasn't a belt to the air pump, was wondering what the air pump does and if i need it or not?

umm... air pump is for emissions.. so you might not need the air pump, unless you have e-tests.. the only reason you SHOULD have a belt is because it helps spin the water pump.. check to see if you have two belts of your alt.. if you do... then it is not needed.

Air pumps are required for the cat converters to work as well as for the VDI and aux ports to work on a 89-92 non turbo

86 na, so will my aux port work without the air pump and will this cause my 5th and 6th ports not to open,,,, oh yea one more question is my water pump connected straight to the clutch fan?

You need the air pump if you have cats. Without cats, your aux ports probably won't open very well.

The fan clutch bolts to the front of the water pump pully.

If you have no CATs then remove the air pump. if you dont have emmisions testing you can remove the CATs and airpump and still open your AUX and VDI with the electronic mod I did
