Air pipe hasn't been connected to bonez cat for 23+K miles.. cat shot?

Ok, well.... I have yet to actually look under my car in detail (except to look for rust) so I decided i'd see the not so better side of my baby

I notice that the air pipe isn't connected to my cat. Um... ok.

I now remember the previous owner telling me this, but I didnt put any mind to it.

He has told me that Kevin Landers said it was basicly OK to do this. That don't make ANY sense.

If there is no air going to the cat... won't all the left over "****" (fuel, hydracarbons or whatever) just SIT in there???

Kevin? lol...

So if I were to plug the air pipe into my cat.. would it basicly just **** up.... start working correctly... no change (performance wise, not going to a sniffer test for a good while).

Believe me, I would LOVE to just cut the ****** out... but not yet

The air pipe is used to heat up your cat quickly when you first start the car. No air pipe and you're cat just won't heat up as fast. If you take it in for emissions, just make sure you warm the car up plenty, and I'd leave it idling until they test it and you should be OK.

So thats the whole purpose of the airpump as well? Or does it control other functions?

You do need it to pass the sniffer. The extra air being injected by the air pump dilutes the exhaust fumes (PPM). Also I do believe you would want to have air going to the cats it wont fry itself.

The extra air does not just dilute the exhaust fumes, it is needed to provide enough oxygen to combust the remaining fuel. You will not pass the sniffer without the air pump no matter how warmed up you are. On the other hand, you will not plug up the cat with no air hose. The crap wont stick inside the cat, it just wont burn up completely before coming out the tail pipe.

You do need the airpump to pass the sniffer, but you don't need the airpipe that goes to the cat if you allow your car to be fully warm when tested.

His question was about that pipe, not the pump originally.
