Air Intake Charge Cooler

Anybody have any experience in using this type of system?

http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...2&autoview=sku

they sell a kit for $150, it looks to be promising, combining this with a CIA might provide decent HP gains?

What do you guys think?

i don't see why it wouldn't work? people put ice on intercoolers to cool them down, or people use C02 sprayers on intercoolers. But, then again I thought C02 has to be released in order to have cooling properties, it looks like this just fills the little bulb, idk but it is probably as much as a used nitrous kit which will lower temps in the intake and add power with the extra oxygen you know.

Looks like liquid CO2 is sprayed into the "bulb". It then evaporates, sucking heat from the surrounding areas. The gas then discharges out the other side. Almost any pressurized gas will do this...in fact I think ALL pressurized gasses will do this but some are better then others (correct me if I'm wrong). The bulb would get pretty cold, about -109 degrees F.

So it seems like it would work. But you need to add the CO2 system to support it, and as mentioned a used nitrous kit would provide better results for probably about the same money.

the idea being CO2 is easier to find, not illegal in any states to have hooked up, and i believe cheaper. They also have a fuel cooler rail that you run your fuel through right before the engine. The final accesory they have to the CO2 kit is an intercooler sprayer. i contemplated using this whole kit, minus the intercooler sprayer (creating a custom designed similar idea to cool the intake manifold in case of heat soak). Just never saw the reasoning for it.

-109 degrees F sounds about right as NOS is around -127 degrees F.

NOS relatively normally lowers intake temp by 60-75 degrees, so i would guess this kit would possibly lower Intake temps at least 50-65 degrees, which would be a 5%-6.5% hp increase.

I say it would probably work and it has its place, although it may not be for all people.

Let's just say I decided to do this kit instead of water injection for my supercharger, the gains should be much better because it's actually cooling the charge all the time?

5%-7%.... on a stock car, u have 146/160 (N/A) and 182/200 (TII) S4 vs S5 respectively, from factory. So if your engine has perfect compression you would get a 7-10hp/8-11hp (N/A) and 9-13hp/10-14hp (TII) increase respectively (at the flywheel). The gains would increase if you have any mods done to your car.

This kit only cools your intake charge when you hit the button (button for 10-15 secs) for about long enough to do one run (1/4 mile, probably longer). Therefore, water injection would be better overall, in that it would be consistent and constant assuming you hooked it up on a hobbs switch, or rpm activated switch (N/A or TII).

Only as long as the switch is turned on and the CO2 bottle is full. Same as nitrous without the power boost.
