Air Intake...
Currently using the stock Mazda airbox, previously had a K&N pod filter, but found that with that lil scoop thingy that the stock airbox worked better. My plan is when i put my FMIC on that i'll run some kind of piping on the hood from the scoop, down to my intake and have another pipe coming from under that car... Will that work? Also what intake should i be using?

It is hard to beat a stock air box with a K & N filter. Asuming engine is stock. Removing the stock air box and filter, and replacing it with a conical after market filter is a poor set up. Unless you direct cool air to the conical it will suck hot air surrounding the engine. Not a good idea...

Yeah well that's the plan of using the two pipes to suck air from the hood and grill into the filter, would that work? And by stock airbox do you mean, put the K&N inside it?

Yeah the path from the hood would kinda double back on itself, that's why i'm not too sure. And also the piping would be hanging above the engine, so might actually be worse rather than better?

I like where your going with this.
I have designed a way to do this, see pics. I just haven't got around to do it.
The path to outside air via the hood scoop is not that bad. It can even be done with the stock AFM.

well my think was that if i had the piping (going to use something flat, alot like the tunnel on the stock box) attached to the hood and then that sealed off with the heat resistent carpeting stuff, that it wouldn't be getting too hot there. And the fact that the air won't be sitting in there for too long. Still need to talk to my mate about it and how possible it would be.

Follow the inlet/outlet from the turbo in the pic and you can see the inlet tubing routed to a modified TMIC that has a K & N type rectangular air filter. You can make your own filter box using the rectangular filter and use the stock TMIC seal flange.
Basically, the air box sits in the stock TMIC location and pipe routes to your turbo inlet. I call it the trombone inlet. You might have to stay <3" tube diameter out of the box and notch the box/pipe to clear the alternator.
"I've never heard of anyone using the stock hood scoop for an air intake, but I like your thinking".
When the TMIC is gone, it opens the space to utilizing the scoop for fresh air. It's an option to keeping your cone filter in the engine bay or cutting hole(s) to get air into an air box.

Well i see a problem with highway driving because air just will go over your scoop, I remember seeing some aerodynamics awhile back showing how you get virtually no air in the scoop at higher speeds, but besides that you would just need to block out the hot engine air... if you want a simple solution.. I use a cheap cone filter and used some crappy sheet metal and metal tape from home depot to enclose the corner in so no hot air gushes in, i even went as far as to get some weather stripping foam or whatever its called to make the seal on top around the hood tighter, It works just as good as anything IMO. And there is lots of write ups about it too.
