Air/Fuel Gauge

I hooked my air fuel gauge and it is not working. Any ideas? I am suppose to just splice into the O2 sensor wire correct? Then the other wires to ground and ignition power?

first off what brand guage is it?? Second when you tap into the 02 wire becarefull that you dont tap into the sheilded part of the wire, This will cause alot of problems. If it is autometer, which it prolly is, well i just think there cheap and suck, i have one and it is not worth a **** and it turns out was way WAY wrong.

Ya it is a Auto Meter. Yours was not accurate? How did you find out? What brand are you using now?

I happen to like my Autometer. The single wire AF gauge isnt accurate by a rule. Its just a safety device that MAY save you some hassles. Lord knows its saved mine once already.

Incorrect. The connection should be made at the ECU, because the O2 sensor cable in the engine bay has a braided sheild around it to stop interference. The braid is grounded at one end. If you tap into the shielded section it's very likely your gauge wire will also touch the braid, grounding the O2 sensor signal and meaning neither the gauge or the ECU get a signal.

I really wish AutoMeter would put this in the damn instructions, since it applies to nearly all cars.

There's nothing wrong with the AutoMeter A/F gauge. It uses exactly the same circuit as all the others, and is simply a glorified LED voltmeter. Nearly all problems with "incorrect" readings come from either incorrect installation, or tyhe owner not understanding how the O2 sensor is used by the ECU and misinterpreting correct readings.

i belive that the o2 wire isnt baided the whole way..rite before the plug seems lik a decent place to tap in..but im having the same problem..i think my o2 mite be blown..but if indeed u get through the braided part..into the real wire and solder..it should work rite?

Mine isn't working correctly either.

Like it works before the car is on but once the car is started, it dimms out and stays in the lean section even after warmup.
