an air filter should be on every turbo. it prevents dirt and other debris from destroying the turbine and fins.

race cars dont need them normally, true race cars are very highly maintained, nascar motors are rebuilt every race if you didnt know that, im not trying to be a dick just sarcastic but if you dont have a filter on and common road debris; rocks, chunks of dirt, ect would fly into the turbo thats not good right, and if they make it past the turbo and into the motor theres a good guess the apex seal(s) will get busted, if it comes with it from the factory its a good idea to use it

naw man that wasnt dickish at all ... and yeah i knew that nascar engines get rebuilt every race ... it was a sily question i guess i just worded it wrong ... i heard somewhere that a filter on the turbo would quiet it up .. and iguess what i wanted to know was if the filter served a purpose other than the odvious lol

im sure itll tone down the sound a little but loud turbos are cool :-D my friends lightning has a loud supercharger on it and this shity cavalier tried to race us so we floored it and he has a lot done to it so when the tranny shifts itll bark the tires, right as it shifted we were ahead of him by like 3 feet and just roached them infront of him so he backed off then at the next stoplight i called him a dumbass for trying to race after hearing that supercharger and he said something like 'oh i thought that was an exhaust leak'

I have SUCH a big BOV, it's sooo loud. It's pretty cool too, 'cause like, you know those custom horns people get for their car that like, play Dixie and stuff? Yeah, my BOV kinda' does that too... But it's so loud that it's for off-road use only--like race-cars and stuff.

cavaliers suck

Hold on you two louder air induction sounds awesome...

LOL, OMG - you realize you just said that a cavalier was able to keep up with the high torque towing gears of a lightning w/ mods until out of first gear? The cavalier has like ~140hp and very tall gears, most trucks can beat most cars thanks to the towing gears starting without the 4 liters of displacement advantage this truck had.

Air filters arent there to directly quiet you turbo... they're there to do exactly what the name implies: filter air. You should run an air filter all the time but you can take it off if you're showing your car.

Why get a loud blowoff valve, a little bit of a hiss is reasonably cool, but if you're not using enough boost to need to blow off all that air... yeah... relief recirculation is better anyway.

If you want to add sound just put a restricting filter on your air pump it'll make that turbo sound. and you'll be cool then

(ps. I got a little irritated by the lightning comment)
