Air Filter Question

Should I get the K&N drop in filter, or the FIPK? The drop in filter is about $90, and the fipk is closer to $400. Does the FIPK give you any further gain than the drop in? Also, does anyone have a homebrew intake setup? This is for an 86 GXL.

Search, there are many home made setup.. I currently use a interga cold air pipe cut up with a K&n filter.. if your S4 use Buy a cheap adapter off ebay for $10 and buy a 3" inlet K&N cone filter.

K&N drop in give a bit more power in the mid range... you can also cut holes in the front of the filter box on the "cold side" of box. search for that aswell.. icemark has some pictures on one of those threads to give you an idea.

FIPK kits have been dyno shown to reduce HP in some applications (like in my Tacoma). Use them and Tornados at your own risk

If you're looking for a performance gain, don't waste your time with a drop-in filter. The airbox is the restriction, not the filter in it.

K&N filters consistently show increased silicon levels in used oil analysis. This basically means that they do not filter as well as stock paper levels and increases silicon levels in your oil can result in increased engine wear. Check out www.bobistheoilguy.com and look at their used oil analysis results in their forum.
