Air Filter and Air Pump

In beginning my long process of upgrading my FC, i went and bought a K&N filter from Auto Zone. Well now there is a hose hanging out from the Air Pump. What do i do with it? Leave it there? Take it off? Can i block it off completely with something?

Get an el cheapo breather filter or cover it with something. You wouldn't want the air pump to ingest a pebble.

On a piece of paper, write down the size of the inside diameter of your hose, and go back to Auto Zone and tell them that you need a "crankcase vent filter" for your V8. They don't know anything about rotary engines, so don't even try, lol. Just tell them that you don't know what kind of valve covers you have on your V8, but show them the paper and tell them that the filter fits in this diameter hole. Once you get it, plug it into the hose and secure it with a small hose clamp or zip tie. You could use a nice, shiny, small hose clamp from Auto Zone, but just make sure to tell them that it's for your Mustang or Camaro, lol. Here is a picture of a typical crankcase filter:

Your total setup should look something like this:

Stay tuned next time for instructions on how to order a Mustang AN fitting for your Mazda at the local speed shop.

well i got it all setup and everything. found a small breather filter there so i didn't have to make the Autozone guys look like idiots..heh. One question though...what is the lil piece of electronic equipment that is right there in front of the airfilter?? i had to take the K&N air filter back and get a 20 dollar filter cuz of the lil bastard, and i don't know what it is??

In the picture Evil posted, is what you are talking about to the left of the air filter? I know one of them is the fuel pump relay, not sure what else is mounted there. As you can see, they unbolted it and set it to the side.

it's the air flow meter and is the most important sensor in the car.

Which front are we talking about? I assumed he meant towards the front of the car, as in towards the headlights. I would have referred to the AFM as "behind" the filter. Eh, it's all semantics.

You can get K&N filters in hunderds of sizes. If your local auto parts store doesn't have the size you need, then just order one that will fit. Most aftermarket auto parts stores will order one for you, or you can order one through an internet dealer.
