Unhappy Ahh... my car has MORE issues!! Help please!

So I finally get my car back together after replacing the thermostat and I take it out for a drive... not more than 5 minutes after I started driving my engine starts screaming at me.... (quite literally, thats what it sounded like....) Is this a slipping belt? My car then wouldn't start up again.... Help?

hmmm...

did it overheat?

does it still turn over?

screaming can be caused by bad bearings in any of the accessories, air-pump, water pump, powersteering, clutch, either of those will do it. It could be your transmission is fried too...starter might be shot.

Screaming could be so many things

The engine did not overheat, it still turns over as well...
It doesn't scream at all when I try to start it.... it didn't scream til I reached ~4500RPM coming over a hill...
When It screamed, the engine stalled, (atleast I'm pretty sure... the warning lights all come on when the engine stalls, right? I couldn't hear it over the screaming...)

hmmm...

It almost sounds like ECU failure or something along those lines...

Try doing the error code check, should be on here some where on how to do it (the search button might help there, I just can't remember the last time it was posted).

That might tell you what is wrong with it...

Is the engine Fireing at all? Kind of sputtering and trying to run and blowing out a little exhaust while turning over?

Just outta interest... could I have blown an apex seal (from lack of lubrication) or could I have overdone it with the MMO in my hasty attempt to lubricate my baby?

What the hell is screaming? Buzzer? Belt squeal? 45 yr. old woman chasing a 21 yr old college student around the bedroom?

What was your water temp? You dumped MMO in the GAS tank? Who recommended that? I don't think that's such a good idea, always use 2 cycle oil, intended to be mixed iwth gas..

Check the obvious things.. Are you getting fuel? Are you getting spark?

All the lights will come on if the alt. is bad as well.

hmm... maybe that was it... I'm starting to lean towards a loose alternator belt... cause it only slipped at high RPM... I just wish it would start up again...
It sounded like a belt squeal to me... but I dunno for sure.. (don't have much experience with diagnosis.... I spend too much time fixing things that are obviously broken... )
MMO is a fuel treatment... (it says so right on the bottle )... It has been recommended (and disputed) by half the forum... and seeing as how I had no 2 stroke oil suitable for fuel injected engines... well...

I guess I wait til my battery is fully charged and give it another try... (*crossed finger*)

i dunno... My alternator was really hot when I touched it while adjusting the belt tension (right after this happened...) Are they supposed to be hot? (remember, the car had only been running for ~5-10 minutes...)

yeah... i have the book... This is just not working... what are the chances that this is the rotor seals? 'cause I'm getting nothing... Does anyone have suggestions as to how I can diagnose this one?

if you lost an apex, it would probably start still...
Take a voltmeter and check your MAF.. make sure it's connected good (the big metal box at your air filter)

I don't know if you have fixed your problem yet, but i had the exact same thing happen to me. It turned out that the bearings in the "new" altenator i installed seized up causeing a horrible squeal. When i would push in the clutch, then engine would die, but when i let it back out it would start back up. I did this 3 times going down the road and it went away, so i was like wtf? Turned out the belt eventually snapped so no more squeal..lol Check all the bearings on any of the exterior components and see if they are seized or out of tollorance. That could be dragging your motor enough not to start
.

its worth a shot... maybe I'll just loosen up the belts and try starting it... (just to see if it will start... )
The alternator did seem surprisingly hot when I got out to check things, but I dunno if this is normal...

What I really need is some time to work on my poor baby... too many cars, too little time...

Thanks Rotor13B

rotor13B: man, u were right on the money I loosened the belts off and it started first try... so then I just gently tightened them... and it workS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...turns out, when I was trying to remedy the problem (after it initially died on me..) I put the belts on too tight... ...so i got them on properly now, and it runs!!!..
