The only time the tach didnt work is when i got it started at work the first time. Then I turned it off and the next time I got it started and drove it home the tach worked fine. And I have checked both the coils and am getting spark to all the spark plugs.

Ok....

I have gotten my hands on a compression tool and have checked the compresstion.

I am looking for even bounces. I actually took video of the compression tool and would like some opinions of it.

Thanks again

Great...

Well its been a couple weeks and my baby still isn't running. The compresstion test turned out to be okay.

I called the previous owner and asked him if he had ever had this problem and he said that it had happened to him a few times and that on humid days if you didn't let the engine warm up enough that it would foul the injectors. To fix it; push it down a hill get going 4-5 mph and with the key in the ON position and the car in 2nd gear drop the clutch and you should get quite a bit of white smoke that smells strongly like gasonline out the exhaust.

Well...

I did exactly that and after a few times it started! I was getting blue smoke and white smoke and black smoke out of the exhaust but it just wouldn't start. One of the times I checked my spark plugs and saw that they were pretty damn dirty so I cleaned them up and then my friend cranked it over. It started up real nice and then really nicely died. I yelled at him for not revving it alittle to keep it running. His answer was that he didn't want me to bend a rod.... Since then I havnt been able to start it. We went back to pushing it and keep getting white-dark smoke out the back but couldn't get it started again.

Does this ring any bells to anyone? What's wrong w/ my car?!

why dont you just pull start the car...get a friend to tow you and leave it in 3rd till the ****** starts..worked for me in a 1st gen...took about 5 freaking miles...car ran great after that...and I changed the plugs and wires..have you done that yet?...also, I guess that you have leaky injectors...get on ebay and look for some good used ones for cheap money...just make sure the person has good feedback

I have had the problem of my tach not working sometimes when i start the car. Originally, the tach wouldnt work at all (my stupid friend forgot to plug in the trailing spark plug wires and said "ok start'er up!" so i did and it fried my tach output) So i replaced the trailing coil and the tach works most of the time.

You said when it was flooded (im assuming thats what it is) and you got it started then the tach didnt work. Mine will do this exact same thing. When it floods and i finally get it started, my tach will read for a second then drop to 0 and not get a reading. If i turn it off and start it again then it will work, i beleive it has something to do with the ecu's signal to the coils while its flooded, because generally the car will bog and run like **** afterward

The towing idea sounds a hell of a lot easier than pushing the damn thing. So I have leaky injectors... hmmmm....

kewl... (well really not so kewl but hey....)

i8... thx for the help... i guess im replacing the injectors... I already replaced the spark plugs and the cables and etc. so i guess its the injectors

Okay...

I got off my butt today and took out my fuel injectors now I have a few questions...

How many are there? Are there 2 primary injectors and 2 secondary injectors?

The injectors have the correct amount of resistance but they dont seem to spray but when we remove them after cranking gas spills everywhere but they don't spray fuel or even drip fuel.

When I looked in the hole where the injector goes into the second rotor housing it was full of crap so I cleaned it out so that you can see the holes in the bottom. The front rotor was okay.

How can I further test the injectors so I will be sure they are bad so I dont spend money on parts I don't need. Since they don't spray or drip could it be my ECU or crank sensor? Ya know not telling my injectors to fire.

Whew, you got a novel going here...

1) Get a spare 12v car battery, or use the one in the car.
2) Remove the injectors from the car
3) Connect a couple of jumper leads with alligator clips on them from the battery to the injectors (but don't put the clips on the injector pins just yet), use the + lead for the left side pin on the injector, and don't let them short together.
4) Get a length of air compressor hose (or similar), at least 2 or 3 feet, and attach one end to the injector inlet plumbing, using a tie-wrap, hose clamp, etc...
5) Hold the hose vertical (I actually clamped it to a post to free my hands), and fill it with a compatible solvent (acetone works well)
6) Attach one lead to the injector, and "tap" the other lead to the other injector pin (or you can use a push-button switch in the circuit, it makes life easier)
7) You should hear the clicks, and you should see the solvent flow from the injector. The longer length hose you use, the more the injector will actually "squirt" a pattern...

Hope that helps...

heh, i fixed it. it could be that you are really badly flooded as i was. i simply said eff it and red lined it for like 5 minutes and it would gradually get better and better... untill it ran fine. you should do that. just run the snot out of it and after 10 minutes of reving, and it doesnt get better, keep doing it. if after like 1 houre of reving it at 2 grand, it should get better. i mean dont hold a constant rev. just use the whole rpm range. like jujyst floor it, and then when it hits redline

I wouldn't ever rev my engine that high even with a load...unless you know its been rebuilt to take that...apex seals and all kinds of stuff can come undone if you push the envelope that hard...if you been doing that all along could be no wonder she's runnin crappy....

Why are you worried about the secondaries, lol?

You can check those also, the same way...

In fact, if you're going that far, might as well swap the primaries & secondaries when you go back together with her, if the "homemade" injector tester doesn't reveal anything (assuming the injectors are all the same)...
