now i am sure to get the RS*R Race springs with my AGX.. but how far will it drop the car? the tanabe are going 1.5inch in the front. i read the RS*R Race do not drop that far, but im not sure!

an other question i have is for pillowball mounts or how they are called.. there are some from Cusco for about 100$. My friend bought them, and he is racing on the Nurburgring-Nordschleife.. after 2 laps they were blown!! dont want to buy crap which do not hold minor abuse!

I believe the RS*R's are 1.5" front drop and a 2.0" rear drop.

wow, whats the deal with the 2.0" in the rear?? dont understand.. for pure acceleration?? (weight transfer to rear wheels)

Well, honestly I prefer it. Take a look at most other spring drops. The rear is alway sitting higher.

Tanabae - 1.5 1.5
Eibach - .8 .8
RS*R Down - 1.4 .8

Now take a look at your car. Naturally it sits higher in the rear and with the RS*R Race it evens the vehicle out a little better. Now, other than looks I would say weight transfer, acceleration, and center of gravity all play a part in the reasoning behind it.

The Tanabe springs dropped my car 1 inch all the way around. A friend of mine has the RS*R and sits as low or lower. The total drop, or increase, depends on how worn out your original suspension is.

That black car is spirited RX7 or Spirit RX7.
He used kyb/agx with rsr race it think.
He's now on some coilovers.

I like my setup, drop is nice, not overly stiff and it handles nice when I autoX it.

Here is a comparison shot, my car with Tanabe GF210 is at the bottom, the top is RSR springs *sorry forgot whose car it was.* Both cars on 15" vert wheels. I was at a bit of an incline and their is a shadow above my front tire so it makes it look like the front sits higher than it really does.

The picture you posted of your TII...that's not sitting on the GF210's is it? Looks much lower than a 1" drop.

Yeah it's on the GF210's. I measured it before and after and the front was exactly an inch, the rear may have been a hair more. Like I've said, what you end up with depends on how worn out your original setup is. I could DD the car but I have my 88 'Vert for that.

Sort of level shot....

A watch out for the curb shot....

A compared to these shot...

A stock (L) then mine (M) then RS*R (R) shot. Me and the RS*R sit just about the same when side by side.

And a really freaking huge pic (sorry) of.... whatever everyone is running.

I track the car at VIR, autocross it and take on obscene backroad runs...

The only problems I run into are inclined driveway entrances and an occaisional speed bump. I do get some tire rubbing on the front springs once in a great while on very very hard cornering at VIR.

Wow. That's great. I think I'm going to go with the GF210's due to their price and availability compared to the RS*R's. I've got an S5 Red TII as well so your photos are much appreciated. Planning on doing some AutoX this spring, glad to hear they respond well.

Big price difference between the two. It's about a $150 USD price difference, here in the states at least.

That is correct. IMHO you get what you pay for but enough people have spoken for the quality of Tanabae for me to bite.

an other question i have is, why are the stiffest replacement springs (RS*R Race) near half the spring rate of for example Tein Super Street with 9,0kg/mm front and 7,0kg/mm rear.

what is it all about the Coilovers? why not koni yellow, or KAYB AGX with replacement springs like RS*R but as stiff as coilover springs?

I think pricing was about the same between the two brands when I was looking a couple of years ago but like I've said, I could/can never find the RS*R's in stock. It's what I wanted to go with but nobody had or could get them so I went with the Tanabe set. I've been real pleased with them so far and the AGX shocks but wouldn't mind trying them out if someone ever gets them in stock. Hint hint nudge nudge....

Speculation answers from me on the following....

The benefit of coilovers is being able to corner weight the car and set it up as needed. If you're doing alot of track stuff it's worth it, otherwise overkill maybe for the street.

The Teins may be track springs I'm guessing where the car is slammed to the ground and you need the stiffest spring in the world to keep from bottoming out.

With a 1 inch or so drop you will need a rear camber adjuster but pillow ball mounts might be a little over the top, nice to have though. I'm stock other than a rear camber adjuster and tire wear on the front and rear has been extemely even (full digital alignment at a great shop).

good luck finding a set of rsr race. with an extra hundread i think? you can get a set of GC coilover sleeves for the agx, and you can pick any spring rates you want.
