AGX and some Racing springs
 

HI there,

there a bunch of threads about springs and struts, but i have some special needs.

I dont want to lower my car too much, and want to make it trackable.

first.. i dont have the money for some nice coilovers, so i want to try it with KYB AGX (already bought) and some nice springs.

i was up on buying tanabe GF210, but now im not sure.. read about the stiffer RS*R and thought about buying these.. are they still available?!

i want to drive my car daily, but make it ready for the Nurburgring Nordschleife, so a stiffer setup should be nice.

Do the RS*R Race drop my car to much?? am i going to kill the AGX with them?

I'm running Racing Beat springs with my AGX's and I like how my car handles. Not too stiff for the street and they didn't lower it too much. Not sure if you have looked into those yet.

RS*R has been hard to get from what I understand. ARD might be able to get them. I wanted them for mine but couldn't get them so went with Tanabe and AGX. Drop (or rise) is dependant on how old the old suspension is. Mine dropped an inch all the way around. You won't kill the shocks. I autcross, HPDE and other things with my car, don't daily drive it but drive it enough.
With either spring the ride will be fine as long as you take time to adjust the shocks as needed, or as some people leave them as you like. While you're at it might as well replace the bushings, get a rear camber adjuster and some decent tires.

i have the kyb agx's with the racing beat springs and its amazing for track work. plus the kyb's can be adjusted so when your not rcing you can have a half way decent ride.

on www.rx7store.net they only got the RS*R Downs. Looking bad to get some RS*R Race huh? :(
anyway, is there something stiffer than Tanabe?

adjusting rod in the back, and camber plates in front are a MUST.
racing beat seems to be to soft as i look at the spring rates..

I'm running AGX with suspension specialist springs. They use those springs on the circle track.

what is the spring rate of those?

From what Ive read, the RBs are about second stiffest to the RSR Races. More importantly, they are also linear rates. This mean the springs are the same stiffness through out the entire range of compresstion. Springs like Eibach, Tanabe, and ST(I tihnk) are progressive rates. So even if they have a stiffer spring rate, the first inch or two of compression will most likely be much softer for a better ride on the street. My Racing Beat spring just arrived today so I will say how I like them.

i was wondering today how these are...dont see too many people with them, take pix if u can. what shocks u using?

Tanabe is the next stiffest to RS*R from what I understand and they are linear if you get the GF210 model.

I'm using RS-R Races, I fully recommend it. I"ve tried GF210s, they really aren't that stiff. I have actually not tried Racing Beat though, I can't comment on that, but if you can get your hands on RSR race springs, I say go for it. AGXs should handle them just fine (I'm using other shocks). As for the drop, it's a decent drop, not overkill and not a small drop either.

I emailed RSR last week about the Race springs. They said they are currently out of stock all over the place but they have not been discontinued as many thought. They said to get back with them in like 2 months and see where they are at.

Also, if you can get all the dimensions of the RSRs, you can call up Ground Control and get a custom set from them. Thats probably what Ill be doing.

They have a major selection of spring diameters and stiffness. Here checkout the site http://www.bluecoilspring.com/ also they aren't price skyhigh. With my AGX's I went with the 2.5 diameter, 7 inch long springs. I can't recall the stiffness I went because I bought them awhile ago. Good Luck with the 7!!

I love my RSR "race" springs and AGX's... The AGX's are really, really nice low-cost struts, with very easy and noticable adjustment settings. The RSR's are great on the street, and paired with the KYB's can be either very, very stiff or very comfortable for daily-driving. I've been commuting a lot (60 miles a day) and daily-drive my TII. I love 'em.

Does anyone have any experience with comparing the AGX/RSR combo with a coilover setup (in terms of stiffness, handling and driveability) ? Just curious...

I'm running KYB AGX and Tanabe GF210. From my understand GF210s are the next stiffest springs after RSR, and RB are behind both of them.
I like my setup, drop is nice, not overly stiff and it handles nice when I autoX it.

Here is a comparison shot, my car with Tanabe GF210 is at the bottom, the top is RSR springs *sorry forgot whose car it was.* Both cars on 15" vert wheels. I was at a bit of an incline and their is a shadow above my front tire so it makes it look like the front sits higher than it really does.

thanks for the AGX/RSR post with pictures! now i have a clue how far my car will be dropped. but im running the stock 16 S5 rims, with 225/50 in front and back
how much will the RS*R Race drop my car? i have an AERO lip in the front, would be bad to remove it bc the car is to low :D

Stock aero lip? Take a look at eriks car up there, he's got a lip and plenty of clearance. Good luck find the RS*R's, I've been searching for a while now. Everyone including ARD is out of em.

I still think you will be fine. Just be conscious of where you are and what you are doing. I have the MS lip on my S5 TII with stock susp., wheels, and stock size tires and rubbed the lip the other day on a curb because I pulled to far forward.

I have the stock lip and have to watch for everything or it will scrape if I'm not carefull. Sometimes even the underside or the cans on my GReddy PE exhaust will scrape.
