I think most members are in the 18-24 range.

also do you guys think age matters when it comes to engine work or body work, pretty much anything with cars?
Yes, there is something to be said for maturity and life experience. However, there is also something to be said for youth. For example, if you compared an 18 year old mechanic with 2 years of experience to a 45 year old mechanic with 2 years of experience, you would probably expect the younger mechanic to have better dexterity and to be more up on the latest technology, while the older mechanic would probably have a better command of his occupation. I'm generalizing of course, as everybody is different. The thing is, you don't see too many people over the age of 30 who think that an air pump supercharger is a good idea.

Everybody has their own strengths and weaknesses. The usual weakness of those age 17-18 is their lack of experience, which ironically tends to make them think that they know everything.

We are all still learning every day.

I'm 23. I've been learning and working on cars since I was about 16 and took the auto tech corse in high school. Not an easy thing to work on cars when your family doesn't own any. I bought my first car at 17 and bought my rex last summer. He's never run correctly but rather then rebuild the N/A engine like I wanted to do orginally I went jspec turbo. I can see myself rebuilding that when it goes. Hell, parts are hard to get when you live in canada. Half the places that sell rebuild kits didn't want to ship to me. I'm half way done of my first year of a two year Automotive Tech diploma. One thing I can say about older people is sometimes the younger kids, verses me, an older kid , is the younger people sometimes don't know when a slightly more serious attitude is required. But I think anyone of any age that wants to learn how to do something is on the right track. Our text book for our course has one paragraph on the rotary engine. That's all. I'm making it my mission to be able to fix my own RX-7, even if I have to teach myself how.

I beat you both. 40. 41 in April

The other thread got moved to polls.

red_ricer please search for that poll, or other threads on simular subjects before starting threads like this.

I will let this thread go for another day or so, and then it is history, since it really is not 2nd gen technically specific.

Here is the original poll so you can see the real age:

15 turning 16 on the 7th. I've had my 87 base since fall 2003, my brother had it from 2001 to 2003 then gave it to me. I've done pretty much all the work or helprd with it on that car. I put all new suspension in with my friend. Did the suspension bushings. Dropped the tranny with my brother about 3 times. Put a LSD on it. Torn apart my interior from head to foot, then put it back together to replace cracked panels. Chnaged the radiatore in the middle of winter. Pulled out te front part of the car after my bro hit some woman, (only going about 20mph, not bad damage). I took apart a 13b turbo with my brother only to find out it was trashed on the inside. I've done a lot of stuff and I want to learn more about my car, thats why I came here.

with a name like Red Ricer, you're just asking to get ripped on. I am 18 in 2 weeks and buying a 1st or 2nd gen by the end of the month.

I've also done lots of work on my Celica. I removed the factory header and installed a Pacesetter header, made myself a custom exhuast system, repaired my own accident damage and did my own bodywork and paintwork and carry out all my own repairs on it.

I'm 14, I have ported and polished a TB,Intake Manifold, and dynamic chambers. I've also was going to rebuild a 13b with my brother(I did most of the work putting it together), and when we got it all open we realized it was not reusable, so I'm porting it right now, and its getting closer to being finished(we had to put it back together, and I wasnt there, and my 17 year old brother put the e-shaft in backwards, and I had to fix it cuz he couldnt figure out what was wrong, LOL). I've also polished rims, and done a little body work on cars, but I've fixed a practically cracked in half surfboard, which is prolly harder than most body work. I'm good at spray painting, LOL. I also am pretty good working with wires, mainly stereo , and speaker. I also stripped all of my brothers fc interior out. I've been working on cars for around three years, and for my birthday 'm getting a welder , and I want it really badly

Let me one up you - 45 this week. Have had hands in rotaries since mid 70's. I did not have a Rotary from about 82-99 so I have been learning alot form the community on things that have changed with the FC's and FD's.

A few posts up folks talked about age and experience. I feel its more passion and experience. Those that are passonate about their craft (88integra, RETed, Icemark, Aaron, Kevin Landers, HiGGi and others) are a sheer pleasure to follow and trust.

Then we have those (VERY FEW) that try to force feed their 19 year old ideas down others throats that make me gag. Its interesting reading this post to see hold old the advise givers are. Alot of passion here which makes this community very strong.

19 turning 20 this year.

Im on my first 7 and love it.

In the process of building a 2 car shop with 2-post lifts and everything to eventually be opened as a small rotary shop.

In the process of building not only my fc but building up an original '73 340 Plymouth Duster (bored to 345) and finishing the conversion of a SLant-Six 73 Duster into a 340 Duster.

i like my rotary better then those pissed-ons tho.

I'm 18. Got my 7 about a month ago. Have been working on cars since I was young enough to pick up a wrench, but I've only gotten serious about it in the past two years (fixing the junkers I drive). My 7 is by far the most beautiful car I have owned, and probably ever will own.

21 years old. I've had my car sense I was 16 though. I think the reason people rip on younger kids is because of the type of questions asked. Granted there is a lot of people on here that are young but really know what they're doing and how to do it, but the kid who wants to know where he can buy a 300 shot of NOS so he can run his NA at 500 hp gives a bad name for the people of that age bracket. That's my 2 cents.

I'm only 19 and own both cars in my Sig. Although the NA is for sale so I can pay back on the loan for the TII, but for now they are both mine.
