Aftermarket for TII?

I've heard somewhere that the aftermarket for the 89-91 TII isn't as big as the one for the 86-88. Is this true? I'm looking for a TII/convertable right now (whichever one I find first that's the cheapest) and if I get the TII, I'm probably not gonna do the engine swap. In the 3rd gen Maxima's the 92-94's were better (had 30 more hp and more top end power) but had almost no aftermarket parts [I own a maxima, so you should expect this commin from me]. I don't want to get the late 2nd gen TII to find I can't really mod it as much as the earlier one.

I'd like to modify the exaust, intake, turbo, and various other parts and would like to know if there's a difference in the aftermarket parts, or it's really just the same.

To the best of my knowledge, it should be relativly the same, however, i owned an '87, so maybe one of the series 5 guys could shed some light. I can definitly say, however, that both cars can be built up to give you a hell of a lot of power.

That's not true. The few differences between the two models has little to do with bolting on an aftermarket part. In fact, the only differences that really matter in the aftermarket realm are the clutch/flywheel size, and the inexpensive adapter plate required for the S4 to use a cone filter. Other than that, most aftermarket parts will fit both models universally.

Here are the major RX-7 aftermarket parts web sites, so you can check for yourself:
