Aftermarket Gauges: What do you have?

I am looking at getting some guages for my car, but I am having a tough time deciding. FIrst of all, how reliable are the stock guages on the cluster? I am looking to get three gauges that I can fit in a DIN panel, I don't really like seeing the guages all over the place.

I know I am going to get an Oil temprature. The others I have been considering are:

1. Boost (I will have the read out from my stock gauge and my boost controller, do I really need a third boost gauge?)
2. Voltage (mainly to monitor so I am sure I have enough volts for the fuel pump, or is below better?)
3. Fuel Pressure
4. Water temp gauge
5. EGT (I have a WB, so is this pointless?)
6. Oil pressure

I also have the SAFC II(not hooked up yet), but I did not really read if that would give me boost readings as well, or if you can get the readings since the TPS will be wired to the boost (I have a S4).

What I have been thinking the 3 to go with are Oil temp, water temp, and boost. Those seem to be the more vital gauges. What do you guys have?

I run GReddy p/h/w Boost, Water, and EGT. The EGT is probably not needed so much now as I have a wideband in the car now.

I've got boost, water temp, volts and there made by Smiths motorsport. I chose these mainly because the illumination was available in orange to match the rest of the dash. Luckily enough they are accurate aswell

Any one use the US spec Defi D-Gauges?

Whats the purpose of the EGT gauge? To help determine A/F ratios? Is the stock Oil pressure gauge pretty acurate?

I just got the D-Gauge Boost Gauge a few days ago. Haven't had time to test it out yet though. I plan on getting the rest of their gauges too. Like some other gauges someone said, they match the stock gauge illumination perfectly. Well, as far as I can tell from www.defi-shop.com. They got pics and neat animations of how all their gauges look like and work and stuff. I hear they're pretty accurate too.

I got mine on sale from the www.rx7store.net for $125. I think they are still on sale too. Of course when I ordered mine they were on backorder (might want to call first before ordering to see if they still have them in stock if you do plan on getting them), so it took about a week or so for them to get it. And then we ran into some other complications so it took a little longer than i expected it to take, but Jason took care of everything in the end. I also understand they get fairly busy over there too, so it may take a little while longer than expected to get it. Anyways, I think they sell all the lines of Defi gauges (not just the D-Gauges) at Rx7Store for a fairly good price.

Yes I have them, they are nice. I have EGT, BOOST and Water Temp.. I have a picture though its out dated. (gauges installed, but only boost was hooked up. Which is why they are pegged almost all the way over)

I like them, but I better like them considering the F-ing price on the things. (I even got a deal on it... well I think I did.)

They match the interior lighting very well, same with the aftermarket head unit. Which is made by Clarion.

Here is one with the flash...

EGT helps you make sure that you have a decent mixture coming out your tail pipe... well wherever you have it probed. Mine tapped in the downpipe. If I understand correctly the richer you are, the higher EGT's you will have. So it can help somewhat to see what you have coming out the back, but your best place to find out these things from what ive read is a dyno. Most everyone agree's on it too. That way you can compare your gauges to a place which does these sort of things for a living.

As far as the oil pressure gauge being inacurate. Ive read alot of people recommending to definately use an after market one. The sensor/gauge is old, just like the car. So its most of the time not going to be as acurate as an aftermarket tapped at the filter, and hooked to a gauge in the cabin. (electric or mechanical. I prefer electric ones myself. Leaving the fluids in the engine bay.)

DAMN! That looks really nice!

Are the D-Gauages electrical or mechanical? I really didn't read that far about them.

Did you fabricate the radio gauge pods yourself?

I have Autometer Phantom Gauges:
Boost
A/F

Came in the car when I bought it, not my first choice for gauges but oh well, the Boost gauge does the job, and A/F gauge is not even hooked up so it just sorta sits there in the pod doing nothing.

I would have prefered to have gotten a Greddy Boost and EGT in place, but maybe eventually I will change them.

later

I have Autometer water temp, EGT, Boost, Fuel pressure, and a/f. I voted for:

1. Water TEmp.
2. EGT
3. Boost

EGT and Water Temp are electrical. The boost gauge is mechanical. I have it T'd into the pressure sensor line, as I can't find any better spot for it..

Water temp and oil pressure. Both stock gauges are toasted.

I'll make note that I have an N/A, so that automatically eliminates a need for a boost gauge.

The three I have are water temp, oil temp and oil pressure. And they look great right below the radio, although I'll soon put them above the radio and move my head unit to the bottom.

I wanted to do the same thing, the problem I had was the clearance of the radio, it couldn't quite get all the way back with the wires coming out. Also since its an LCD like most stereo's these days having such an angle makes it quite hard to read when its that low. Granted its nice to be able to see the gauges easier. You also shouldn't have to look at your gauges all the time.

Im still trying to figure out a way to make it work at the bottom. Maybe a different head unit might work better.

Thanks, ive since moved it around again. I wanted to be able to see them better.. I moved the logicon to the bottom where the gauges are in that old pic. Then made something else to hold the gauges in place... trying to perfect it, but it looks pretty decent and I can see the gauges alot better.
