After the rebuild: Questions?

13bt:

If I get a streetport how can I tune the engine if the engine needs to be broken in?

Can I keep ECU stock settings with a streetport and drive under no boost and be safe during break in?

Is the 13bt engine rich at low end/no boost.

The reason I ask these questions is because I won't have my standalone for a couple of weeks. Since I am breaking in the motor and I was wondering if I baby the engines am I still at risk popping the motor.

yes, you can still drive it. just like you said, stay off the boost. at least at first. if you have an egt guage and or an air fuel guage, just watch those. otherwise, just wait till you get your standalone..

I am going to have roughly the same problem soon. I have an SAFCII and my rebuilt/streetported TII will be running soon. I was thinking I will just not touch the piggyback till breakin is up, then slowly tune down the 720s but nothing drastic. Then my friends dad is going to help my dyno tune at his work for free My other big problem was that my car isnt registered, and I didnt want to take it to the emissions place and have them rev it high or get into boost, but I think I will just buy a 30-day waiver for $15 from the DMV. Wow, I guess this didn't contribute to your thread...oh well...free bump!

As far as running lean or rich in this context, it isn't a concern. You're worrying about detonation and tearing the engine up, but detonation isn't possible in low engine load situations. Let me give you an example.

You can take a properly tuned, 500hp turbo rotary. Put it on a dyno at 20psi/WOT and take away some fuel...you'll rapidly get detonation. Now, put the first map back on. Take the same engine, and run the same engine at 1/4 throttle with no boost(cruise, normal driving). Take away some fuel. The engine will sputter a little, and if you take enough fuel away, it will eventually just stall. IT will not detonate, there is not enough load on the engine to do so.

Drive reasonably and you have no issues.
