Just out of curiousity, what exactly did the shop you took it to do to fix the problem temporarily?

I can't tell exactly... but when I removed the starter the other day I noticed some extra wires. 1 connecting to where the the main thick positive cable connects to from battery, and the other connects to that flat thin post on the side/between the 2 positive and negative thicker posts. I tried just removing those wires to return the starter to the original configuration, and then turning the key from there. But that was after the power went out that last time till who knows when, so I will try again later. I won't be able to tell if removing those wires do anything until power returns and I can try to crank it again.

You know my friend had a problem very similar to this. He has a 88 GTUs and it came with the battery relocated to fit in the rear passenger storage bin. It was like this when he bought it. After a while he thought he blew his engine somehow because whenever he tried to turn it over it would go ultra slow and it would make a really nasty sound when it turned like "vrom, vrom, CLANK... vrom, vrom, clank!"

He tried everything but alas, the problem wasn't fixed. Finally gave in and took it to our local rotary specialist who took one look at it and just put in a new grounding kit for the engine and car and it solved the problem totally. Now it starts just like new.

I'm guessing you might have the same problem with yours and the "quick fix" that your shop did was just add a couple more ground wires that helped it for a while. I would just reground the entire engine by getting a new ground kit and HOPEFULLY that will solve the problem.

Goodluck.

Hey, what battery do you use. Is it a Optima red or yellow top perhaps? My same buddy has had terrible trouble with these for unknown reasons.

It may sound stupid but just check. are your battery post and wires clean? A few weeks a go my car had similar symptoms for no power all of a sudden. i took the batery out of my RSX and put it in the RX7 and it started, put the RX7 battert back in the 7 and nothing no power what so ever. confused as hell i repeated this a few more time to wrap my head around it. then i cleaned the posts on the 7's battery and everything is ok.

It is just some standard energizer battery I think.

I actually did another test and found out that with the ground wire of the DMM on the -battery post and the positive wire on the +battery post everything was fine. Then I moved the ground wire to the battery cable and voltage was still fine, THEN I put both wires back to the battery posts and moved the positive wire to the positive battery cable and there was no voltage. So I guess that connection right around there is bad. I will get a battery post brush and clean all the metal connections on the wires near battery to see what happens.

I tried this a while ago but ruled it out because the jump start didn't work either. But the shop I finally talked to said that that usually happens and that I really probably need to clean those connections. So, we'll see later this evening. Thanks so far guys! The car is getting soo dirty sitting for so long(month+).

I said that. I thought that if a jump start didn't work, while it supplied all the necessary voltage, then my battery wasn't the case. Of course I was wrong and still don't know why the jump start didn't work.

But, I did get it started by the way. Something is wrong with the positive connection. I cleaned everything then tried starting it again and got the same problem. So I loosened the positive wire up, wiggled it and saw some sparks and power came back on. Then the car started the next time I tried it. I don't know if it is the battery post itself or possibly a bad crimp. But, I atleast narrowed the problem down significantly.

On a side note ...what a nice feeling it was to drive that car again! Can't wait to refresh her fluids and boost her
