AFM problems after fresh rebuild

I have got to do something about this AFM. I have an 86' n/a six port with some basic modifications. i opened up the intake by removing the six port actuation system and i also added a cold intake unit. I also put some exhaust headers on it as well. I notice that once i removed the 6 port system the idle is rough and it is running rich(it smells like it anyway). I took the black cover off the AMF and ajusted it and it ran a little better. Just wanted to know what do i need to do to fix the problem, besides sell the bastard. I am getting 27mpg on the Hwy and 23 in the city i would like to keep it that way but the idle problem is killing me. Your help would be a big help,.

I've never personally removed the sleeves, but I'm going to guess have so much intake duration at low air speeds is killing velocity( not to mention having such a late closing time at low rpms); hurting your idle...

it's my understanding that just removing the 6 port system will not cause the symptoms that you describe. Something else must have happened when you put everything back together.

First off, you should never have had to open up the AFM. It's a sealed unit, and calibrated at the factory.

That's out of the way...

Have you checked the TPS? Should reak 1kohm @ idle, I think. Check it after the car has warmed up. Also, do a look over for any popped off vacuum hoses that could cause leaks.

I set the TPS and its still rough I thought since I removed the factory setup that the specs may have to be changed for the AFM since the airflow demand will be more. I also removed most of the emmisions crap it may be a vac leak. It also stalls after about 5 sec when cold once it is warmed up its fine but still missing. I guess Ill keep looking

nah dude the whole point of an AFM is to measure the additional airflow.
