Afm...

Got one from someone on the board here (kinda hooked up with the air filter ...

Anyway... right now it's kinda damaged..There is no way to fix it is there? If so... would it be hard?

Anyway, if there isnt I'm just going to use the air filter that is on there (one reason why I got it) but I was just wondering about the AFM.

Nope, not really. There isn't much reason to, either, if yours works as-is.

Happy rotoring!

I had to buy a used one when mine broke. I tried my hardest to fix it, but to no avail...don't try, it's not worth the time

Check your local salvage yard for a Mazda 626 AFM. (Yes - size does matter..)

If you're going to **** around with different computers, just get a Haltech or Wolf or whatever and lose the AFM altogether...

exactly i was just curious how the 626 afm would work i know it wouldn't just plug up. and i can't use the cosmo one i don't have a turbo. would the turbo afm plug up to my car and would i lose any inputs? i'd like to go to a bigger afm but i don't need much bigger until i get farther into the engine.

Why would an AFM designed for at best a 160hp engine (the 2.5L V6) be any less restrictive than the one you have that was designed for an engine that makes 180hp?

The Comso AFM is hot-wire, there’s no way it could be used.

If you guys really want to change your AFM, it has to be a flapper type, it would need to be quite a big bigger to notice any real gains, and you would need a minimum of an S-AFC to tune it's output to suit the ECU.

Used AFMs show up on ebay and thepartstrader.....
I was up to three but the one in my car died so now I have 2(1 in car and 1 spare). I mutilated/dissected the one that died; pretty simple variable resistors.

Replacement bigger AFMs aren't available and the suggestion to eliminate it with haltech/motec/wolfe/microtech.... is the best bet.

Why would I have 3 AFMs??? I am starting a collection
Well, after studying the FSM and having an electronics degree, I decided that it shouldn't be to hard "trick" the ECU with a different MAF meter.
My plan was to scope the AFM with another aftermarket AFM in series and compare the outputs; Build a circuit to do a conversion and be done with it. But, Mazda also built in an air thermosister making the AFM output variable with temperature So, I would have to do this with cold and hot air. Once in the summer, once in the winter, and fudge the rest with the data provided in the FSM. Waste of time and money. If anyone wants to assist me with the R&D, send me a check for $50,000, wait 6 months, and I will give you a higher flow AFM The wolf/hal/micro are sounding better already. Enough of the jabberwocking.

The cheap plan is to take FOUR used AFM's and wire 2 pairs in series, and then wire those wired pairs in parallel to match the single AFM's output. Or, is it wire 2 separate pairs in parallel, and than wire those wired pairs in series; buy 4 airfilters and WOW! All that sweat, time, money for 5HP
I don't want to believe that the Mazda AFM is restrictive. And, if it is, then you better have a real FI system.

If I ever get up to 4 AFM's, I might try this and let everyone know how it worked.
But, my advice is to work some overtime, save $$$$, and buy a programmable FI system.
