From ae86 to TII my new project

So due to popular demand (mostly mine) I sought out on a quest for a car with more power. Due to the fact that I dont have much money and didnt really feel like saving for an extended amount of time I decided to trade my beloved ae86. What I got in exchange was a car with more than 2x's the power (considering my corolla only had about 90hp) and slightly less problems. Even with the fact that the new car will be cheaper in the long run I'm still on the losing end considering the guy who got my corolla can get up to 1k more for it than the car I got and due to the fact that I put so much time and money into the Corolla.

What did I get?

1987(s4) RX7 TII, the chassis has about 130k something and the rebuilt engine has about 30k on it. The tranny looks like it's brand new and it has a short shifter. The only problems a I have with it right now is that the short shifter is a little notchy (but thats how they are, I'll just get used to it), the emissions were removed so it floods (it can be fixed with wiring a switch to the fuel pump or various other ways, also an rtek chip can be used to reprogram the ecu), the driver door and fender are messed up (but I already have both replacements), the ps was eliminated so I will need to get a new ps pump and soft lines, and the steering wheel is pretty ghey imo. Other than that it's really fun and has more than enough power. It's weird coming from a low hp super responsive super light car to a turbo car with more hp than I am used to. It will be a crazy learning curve but I think well worth it.

Here are some pics.

Oh yeah and it already has Tein coilovers on it. Not my taste but it's better than nothing so I can concentrate on other stuff and not spend the 1100 on stance gr+'s.

If anyone has anything they would like to chime in let me know.

The car will be setup up for many different types of motorsports mostly road course and drifting but I will probably attend autox and gymkhana as well. Please dont try and criticize me saying "drift cars" arent good on road courses blah blah blah. I will set the car up to my likings, I drive for the fun of it not to compete in a certain class, if I wanted to do that I would build a car specifically for that purpose, so please just stick to suggestions on what I should do to get the car in good running order.

P.s. if anyhone knows where I can get those solid diff mounts or brackets please let me know. Also who sells quality dtss eliminators? I'm still new to the fc chassis so I need help.

Wow, dude! Very nice! Way to get away from the AE86, which is fun, and into a REAL sports car. It looks like it's got tons of potential, in need of a little love, but definitely a fun project!

Welcome to the club!

The car came with an extra door and I have another fender on it's way already!!

I guess it's time to search for someone selling a p/s pump.

So you're the one that picked that up huh? I thought that guy wasn't down for tradin! Good deal nonetheless, congrats! IMO, leave the power steering off, after your arms get a little stronger you will LOVE it, at least while you are driving, parking kinda sucks sometimes.

those are some oldskool Tein coilovers, i had a simular set on my old s13 i bought my first used coilovers tein HR, the top mount looks simular since there is no damper adjustment.. What is the color of the shock body? black or green? if its black its super oldskool.. green might be HR

Hypertek- The strut is black I believe.lol.

TexfcTurboII-Well he can probably get more money for the ae86 than the fc so that was probably a major factor. As for the p/s I had a dried rack in my ae86 and I loved it but this car is a bit heavier. I put air in the front tires and it was alot easier to turn but it's still a workout. I'm going back and forth between removing the piston or re-installing p/s.

Also does anyone know if anyone makes a vacuum hose refresher kit or similar? Or if I can get all new vacuum hoses from mazda?

You and me came from the same world man. I sold my AE86 to get my FC, but to be totally honest, I really wished I kept it, reliability wise, but other than that I love my FC! Congrats on the purchase. Don't forget to read the FAQs and most importantly, the search button is your best friend on this forum! Remember that.

So I've been doing research on these cars for the past week (I just got the car today), and in short.................... this car is awesome!!! You can get virtually anything you want for it and from more than one company. Everyone was telling me everything is expensive for these cars compared to others........ I dont know what the hell they were talking about. I was going to get 500+dollar headers for my ae86 and drop like 6k just into the engine. With 6k into this engine.......I cant even imagine what kind of performance that could get me (as compared to what it would with the 4age). Also the suspension is a hell of alot more advanced but the parts are cheaper!! I can have this thing pretty close to done in a little more than a year!!! So awesome. I see why so many people love them!!! I love them and I just got mine today!!!

Yeah I know I will miss my ae. I already do . But I got neither with the intention of it being a daily driver. I really just got out on the wrong foot with the ae86, I had just turned 18 and was only getting paid 9dollars and hour. I should have gotten a daily first then got a project but I didnt even have money for that. Now with about 800+ dollars to spend on it a month I think I can actually do something with this car. I screwed up with the Corolla but hopefully the next person who gets it will do it right. I really hope they do. I want to see that thing on the track!!!

BTW the blue mx63 cressida right next to the rx7 is my daily. Anyone say BOSO??

I will be but not any time soon. I'm not a big fan of grant. I'll be buying another momo competition like I had on my ae86 and a detachable hub.

Whoever told you that is an idiot.

The only way it'll flood due to pulling emissions is because they fucked it up in the first place.
