advice on a TII buy, please

I just found a 87 or 88 TII with 150,000 miles. It's clean (body, interior) but the guy said it sat to long and now it doesn't start (frozen up). He said $1000 OBO. I was wondering what I should offer him for this car as a rebuild project? I live in Sacramento, CA.
Also is there anything I should look for? I have an 86 NA so I know about those but I don't know jack about TII's.

Thanks in advance,
Ed

The only advice I can give you is if you do indeed decide to buy don't try running it until you've replaced all the fuids, including gas. Also, make sure you look at the undercarriage, see if there's any rust down there and see how dirty it is. Look at the tail pipes and see if they're properly aligned in relation to the rear bumper. The guy could be giving you a line of BS and the engine could be blown, guess you won't know unless you buy it.

Well if it doesnt run im saying chances are 30% chance it has carbon build up with atf will fix 30% chance its flooded 60% its blow.

Offer something lower then that. If the body etc.. is in good shape buy it for sure. chances are it wont cost u anything to make run but even if it doesnt run its only around $2000 to get the engine rebuilt. Offer low

I think I saw this one in the auto trader. I was thinking about it too. As long as the body and interior are really good then 1000 is good for that alone if u plan on droping a jspec in it.

With the 10th digit in the vin being H the car should be an 86 not an 87 or 88, right?

Yes they did, even though they were "87" cars. However, this one was made in 87, as "H" = 87. If it had a "G" then it would be an 86.

IMO that engine is 100% dead. You are looking at $500-800 for the car (if in good shape) + $2,000 for a rebuild + whatever else needs to be fixed. If it has been sitting for a long time, you can pretty much write off the clutch slave cylinder and the tires, and the calipers may be seized. At 150,000 miles the driveshaft is going to be toast, as well as the suspension. It sounds like a good project car if that's what you want.

Here is what to look for on an FC:

Thanks for the Carfax kabooski.
So it's seems like everyone agrees the car is a good buy for under a thousand as a project car. Even if the engine is dead. I work at an import auto shop and I can rebuild the motor with the help of my boss he's done rotary rebuilds before. We also get all factory parts at discount.
