Advice needed on rebuild options. Crack in s4 weak spot.

Ok here is the run down.

87tii, 60-1 to4, fmic, haltec.... ect. he has what it needs.
s4 streetported motor with 3mm seals.

At 17psi the "weak" spot in the rear end plate cracked and now oil is going all over.

He and i have been looking for a motor... but my question is:

Can the rear end plate be replaced with the s5 one without a rebuild? I say the s5 one because the s5 one does not have the "weak" spot. Thats what i have read anyway.

What options does he have? Full rebuild on a good motor just because the rear endplate is cracked?... or is there some other way?

Please and Thank you!

Jaared.

By "rear end plate" do you mean rear housing (where the tension bolt heads are)? You could change it without a complete rebuild, but while you have the engine out, might as well go all the way (unless it has low mileage)...The S5 rear housing might have slight differences, I dunno (I know the water temp sender threads are different)...

im not really sure whats cracked. the car is sitting at rotorsports. I think we are going to go get it tomarrow morning. then i can take a look at it.

I asked if it was the housing... or the iron. he said he didnt thing it was the housing that was cracked..

I dunno there is a weak spot in there. He said it turns out to be common with the s4.

Jaared, We diagnosed the rear housing dowel pin area was cracked on your friends engine a couple weeks ago -and recommended a rebuild utilizing the '89 and later F and rear housings along with cryogenic processing to prevent this from occuring again. I think neil wants a 3rd gen now
