Add Coolent Warning Light On but Coolent is Full
Earlier today i was driving when my Add Coolent warning light and buzzer went off. I pulled over to check the coolent tank and it was about half way full. I filled it up to the line and kept driving. It came on again a few minutes later for a few second and then went off. This happened a few more times and so i pulled into a gas station. I let the car cool down and i checked the radiator to see if it was full, which it was. I then drove home with the buzzzer going off every 5 minutes or so.
Is there something wrong with the sensor? What should i do?
I have an 87 if that helps at all.

Yes, the amount in the overflow bottle has nothing to do with the amount in the radiator. If you have any small leak in a coolant seal, then the combustion chamber will force coolant out into the overflow bottle. When the engine cools it won't suck it back in like normal either, since the system is still under pressure. I know, because thats what mine is doing right now. If you pull off the rad cap, I bet its dry as a bone in there. It should be full to the top.

bubbles in the top of the radiator keeping the tip of the sensor from touching the coolant..
What u should do (worked for me but made a mess) is have the car running, keep the cap on and unscrew the plug on the side of the radiator BE CAREFULL but once that is pulled out then u can pull the cap and fill it (make sure the car is up to temp and the t-stat is open)
Now fill it untill it comes out of the bleed plug then screw that back in then fill at the neck.. Once it is full hold the throttle down this will cause it to suck some coolant in when doing this fill it some more and then put the cap on with the throttle still depressed..
worked fine for me no more issues or beeping

The coolant warning system has a 7-8 second delay built into it, so the sensor has to be out of the water for that long before the warning is triggered. That's one big bubble...
