ACV working?

Ok so I am failing the emissions test badly and I have been directed towards the cats not getting enough air. My question is does the ACV control the air supply to the split air pipe? Should there be pressure supplied to split air pipe coming out of the LIM when the car is idling?

Just bypass the damn thing, and run the airpump direct to the cat.

Yes, the split air solenoid in the ACV controls the cat air.

There IS a way you can direct pump air full time to the cats if you want- just pull the split air solenoid out of the ACV (it's the rear solenoid on the ACV), remove the spring and poppet, and reinstall the solenoid body. Disconnect the wiring connector for the solenoid to keep it from energizing with no core load (just a precaution)...

Next remove the electrical connector from the relief solenoid valve on the vac rack...Blue one, IIRC...

That's all there is to it...

If the connector is removed from the Relief Solenoid, the ACV will dump all the air into the right fender's silencer. There isn't a catalytic converter in the right front fender. gotcha

If you want to increase the air to the split air pipe and from there to the catalytic conveter, then take the switching solenoid valves hose off its metal nipple just above the acv, and block it with a screw/whatever (the hose).

Oops, yep, you're right Hailers, shoulda had the book with me before I said that. You can put up another chalk mark under your name now

I meant pulling the connector off of the switching solenoid valve (grey one). Don't pull the vac line off, it might cause a leak, or break the 20 year-old brittle plastic...

Yes, I know you said metal nipple...

hahaha already broke the switching solenoid valve once and had to go find a scrap yard that had a 88 to replace it.
