Question ACT clutch, pressure plate finger positions

I just bolted up my new ACT clutch and pressure plate.

I noticed that the fingers that activate the pressure plate sit almost flat? I was wondering if this was right?

When the release bearing pushes them further in they will actually angle inwards?

I thought that they would have been slightly peaked outward when installed and then go almost flat when depressed.

I am comparing this to the Fenco Dynapac (Daiken/Exedy) unit that was there before. I'm sure that the fingers on that pressure plate angled out when installed, there is even a wear ring from where the old release bearing rode on it.

Maybe this is why the old one started slipping at 12K km's

I thought that it was a cheap clutch?

normal. when you have the pressure plate torqued down and the clutch disc sandwiched in there... that is what it is suppose to be.

Make 100% sure you have the clutch in the right way - the springs and stuff that "stick out" on one side of the clutch go towards the transmission. I've seen people put in clutches backwards - bad news .

If that's all cool, and the pressure plate is tightened and flush with the flywheel, you're good to go.

I have an ACT Heavy duty PP and the fingers stick out a bit, however this is when the transmission is off, so if your looking through the check hole to see the transfingers, they make look flat, I'm not sure.

Yes the disc is in the correct way, springs towards the transmission.

I wished that I had a digital camera I'd post a picture of the fingers on the old pressure plate, they actually have a grove waorn into them where the release bearing rode.

I'm beginnning to think that the old unit did not apply enough pressure on the disc to make it hold properly

I guess that as long as the release bearing can depress the fingers far enough to release the clutch from the surface of the flywheel and the pressure plate, that's all that's needed.

Why didn't you say so

How do you like it? I got the Heavy duty pressure plate and the S/S (street/strip) disc, and release bearing, same for you?

I'm about 1 week from putting it all back in again

I love mine, I have the ACT heavyduty PP with a mazdatrix SS CP, I had a copper 4 puck, unsprung, but it was just too harsh. The new setup is perfect.

I liked them a lot. It doesn't feel that much stiffer on the leg than the stock unit, but it grips a lot better, and there is a lot less pedal travel for engagement.
