What about the other way around, an ACT street disc with a stock pressure plate?

OEM is fine, unless you want a super grabby clutch there is no reason to need a puck clutch in an n/a.

Thats getting back to Ted's point earlier that seems to have been skipped over...

the guy mentioned that APPARENTLY he knows how to drive stick.....but with a puck type clutch you pretty well have to dump it all the time...feathering (like you would normally do{slow engagement}on a stock clutch) is just going to burn your flywheel....

NOW.......two years out of a heavy pressure plate and puck type clutch on an unerpowered car sounds like average wear on race type parts to me anyways....so I wouldn't be too concerned

I certainly wouldn't put the same setup back in though - there simply is no need for that on an N/A car....its a waste of bread

I agree that there is little need for a puck clutch unless it is a dedicated race car or has so much power that you have no other choice. We have more problems with premature were from cars with less power and less abuse than cars that have mroe power and driven hard. There are some inferior flywheels out there that run too soft of insert material to handle the friction of the puck friction material. If they aren't broken in hard to lap the surfaces in pretty aggressively, they keep getting chewed up and just wear out. They are never given enough abuse to wear or melt off the sharp points. This was especially true of our older material that we phased out a couple years ago. The newer material is not as sensitive on the bedding process.

I have had my Centerforce DF clutch and pressure plate for over 4 years and it still doesn't slip. I like it much better than the ACT equivilant. I wouldn't go OEM, but at least step it up one notch on the scale. You bought too agressive a clutch for your needs. I did that on a first gen celica and really regreted it.

it didnt last 5 months because it is your driving style....

engage clutch fully and quickly <1000rpm for street driving...
match rpm as best as you could and release clutch fast if shifting...

that will help you get more life out of it... but it still isnt for street driving...

^^exactly

a 6 puck or a 4 puck are made to be abused and run hard.

your application requires not more than an OEM quality clutch or if you NEED to have some nice **** in there i would go with either a Exedy Stage 1 or a ACT Street/Strip set, either of those you should be happy with and if not abused like you claim should last a few years.

but two years, for me, is pretty damn good IMO i beat the **** out of my OEM (temporary bandaid until i can afford a better one) and im about threee months in and ive sucessfully glazed it, lol, i also didnt have time to resurface the flywheel but no one can talk **** because i already knew it wouldnt last too long.

Remember to check your pilot bearing when you have all that **** off of there and if it is no good or is currently making noise when it is cold outside CHANGE IT, its really important even though it is probably the single most PITA to do on these cars.
